I say who cares?! You like what you like. Who is anyone to tell you otherwise? If you like rap, you like rap. I like some rap, and some not at all. I feel the same way about probably every genre of music I know of. Some Jazz kicks ass. Same with country music if you know where to look. I like 'em all, I just happen to have recently added Trance to my list of favorite genres. Have fun. Be yourself!:p :cool:
Edit: You don't have to have a PhD in music to know and appreciate good music when you hear it.:) |

| some of my friends are part of the underground scene in nyc and i gota say, i love a lot of the stuff i hear. one of my friends is workin at fat beats as a dj and he gets tons of promos n stuff so i hear a lot of the new underground tracks. there definitely is a big difference between the underground and mainstream when it comes to hip-hop, but honestly its getting hard to distinguish the difference. as someone mentioned before, wu-tang, outkast, and quite a few other artists are more mainstream now but that doesn't mean they're any worse. some underground artists definitely have to lighten up a bit. you guys gotta realize that there are no absolutes in the world so u cant say make generalizations about anything cuz there is always something to refute it. |

i usually dont like rap or r&b but if the beats are ok i will for sure be dancing on the dancefloor.. i saw a nice piece of tv on mtv lately about rappers etc and ive come to respect them more as artists... every kind of music should be respected but the attitude most of these guys bring with them is just makes them look stupid and affects other people acting stupid:
raek for instance.. man you act like you think you're all that and .. you need to sh*t the f*ck up and grow up.. you're entititled to an opinion but to me you come over like a 10 year old child.. |

Why not just let everyone listen to what he likes? What's the purpose of bashing another one's style?
Personally I really dig hiphop. Listen to Redman, Method Man (Wu Tang) a lot, also some tracks by Ol' Dirty Bastard, Pras, Timbaland, few other guys. Love Nederhop as well for the dutchies ;) Osdorp Posse, Onderhonden, etc. |

I don't really like Rap. Most of it just makes me sick.
2pac - Changes is the only rap song I really like to listen, and some oldschool Public Enemy songs... :) |

Why do you keep trying to insult him by referring to him as a trance addict in training when the topic of discussion is hip-hop/rap?
Aside from everyone's arguments, I would just like to say that I enjoy the RZA's productions, and he is in my opinion a much better producer than the Neptunes. So much talent in the Wu-Tang Clan. |

Well Banky, he started off with the personal insults and lame remarks. This is no pissing contest on who knows more about music or what producer is better. RZA is great, and so are the Neptunes. Both have been instrumental in the evolution of hip hop history. That's all there is to it. |

Haha, it's Brodie from Mallrats, not Banky from Chasing Amy. :p
But anyway, the only Neptunes/N.E.R.D. track I like is Lapdance. Pharrell gets on my nerves with his falsetto vocals that he is famous for. But it is insane how many hits he has produced for so many diverse artists. I remember a few years back when Grammy noms came out and the Neptunes got shafted even though they had produced dozens of top 40 tracks over the course of the year. |

after reading this thread i see a lot of people like a variety of genres, i also noticed raek seems to think hes knows all and can solve all arguments by swearing, thumbs up to u raek. ya.
i like a lot of different music, punk, metal, trance, new age, etc.. depending on the mood. i like some rap but i find a lot of the lyrics too harsh i guess, i'm not offended by swearing just don't like listening to it in a song about hoes/money/killing. just my 2 cents. |
