Being "50 percent" Native, I get things wayyyyy cheaper. Example...8 packs of ciggerrettes INCLUDING a free lighter for the price of 3..only because its bagged. :D

Now, the best part...gas is...only...

I agree, there are so many things we could do besides complaining about the price. Environmental rules have been bent to allow the SUV boom. For example they are classified as a truck and don't need to meet polution and gas efficiency standards that cars do. For example we changed to a new emission testing in CT and by mistake they tested SUVs at car standards and they all failed, even brand new SUVs!

And the damn ironic thing is we have Clinton, a frickin' Democrat, to thank for this! He was the 1st President in 25 years not to do anything about fuel efficiency standards.

One of my major gripes about him.

It's more cost effective to drill elsewhere or just import. Look into the history of Texas during the gas crunch in the 70s there was an oil boom in Texas, but when the prices fell it became unprofitable to drill there and it turned into a ghost town.

I had a feeling cost-effectiveness was likely the reason but wasn't sure. The bottom line is, if we do indeed have oil, and the prices continue to rise, would it not be more beneficial to restart up our own drills in efforts to lower the prices, or would that just be too costly in the long run?

BTW, everyone is worrying over the short-term price. How much you think oil will cost when we start running out? There a finite amount of oil and we eventually will run out then what?

Now you gotta stop thinking logically like that. You'll scare away big oil businesses and their lobbyist cronies.

Yeah your right it is, im glad I dont have my truck anymore as of now lol..

I heard someone say part of the problem with petrol prices in US is that when the barrels are being shiped to the US, they now have to go through all sorts of extra lengthy numerous checks for terroristic threats and security things like that, which than takes all of the oil longer to get to us, thefore raising prices.. :whip:

Hey I could be wrong, but just thought I would post that..

yeah, IMO high gas prices are here to stay :( we're running out of oil and there simply isn't as much spare capacity as there used to be. peak global oil production is already expected to occur sometime within the next 5 (or has it already passed?) yrs., so the sooner we switch to renewable alternatives on a mass scale, the better.

No whining please. I have two cars, and they BOTH suck incredibly on gas mileage.

Car #1

440Cu.in V8. Averages about 8-10 miles per gallon.

Car #2

4.0L V8. Averages about 16 miles per gallon.

So if you need to find me, chances are I'll be bending over at the gas station.

you pay £1 for a ing GALLON of petrol

jesus christ are you all tight arses over there? maybe the price will make you realise you use up to much of the anyway, petrol is like nearly £1 a LITRE here, and there about 5 of them in a gallon.

bout time you woke up to fact that sapping all the oil fro mthis planet aint such a bright idea aftertall. the fact is petrol is gonan get more and more expensive until about 50-60 years time when their isnt any left. (it may even be less time than that if you consider the current growth rate of population in the globe)

Well- Currently I think San Diego has the Highest priced gas in the country.

Down the street it's $2.49 a gallon. If anyone in US has higher I would like to hear about it.

The problem is we have a president who has many close ties to oil and gas companies and he's not really inclined to do much about it.

More so is the problem of once we get over all this bitching about the prices (which have been steadily climbing over the last 5 years) we will just get "used to it" and every year it wont seem to bad.

I dont have any official data or anything but I willing to bet the average price of gas has gradually been creeping up the last 10 years and not in a rate that would coincide with inflation.

Inflation and cost of living adjustments included- Would be interesting to see who actually has the highest prices.
