the best tech-trance was marco v's from 2000-2003, with a peak at 01/02, forget tiestos new stuff, its much better looking below the stuff that people call great into the stuff that true fans really love :D |

discogs has members that are SOOO much more educated about electronic music than tranceaddict. these are people that have listened to electronic music since the early 80's. they have a right to be elitist.
but unfortunately, most of tranceaddict is filled with people who's vocabulary only consists of tiesto or cor fijnerman (i think is spelled his name wrong). discogs has the most electronically diverse culture i've ever seen online. everyone from groovin house lovers to minimal techno fans |

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about really.
Faj27 expressed an opinion and as it turned out he was utterly wrong. Discussion over, right? Apparently not.
Faj, you were wrong. Get over it. Stop trying to argue for the sake of it. |

the majority of djs wont pigeon hole themselves to a particular genre but the music followers find it easier to have tracks defined my genre. for me tech-trance is trance that is slightly more edgey examples including:
mr sam - naranja (dimiris andreas mix)
katana stuff
going onto mark norman productions, some of the newer tiesto stuff.
genre's cant be defined they are what people percieve it to be but for me tech-trance exsists and i fooking love it :) |

OK so because a DJ spins trance and techno a magical genre is invented?
Techno and Trance are quite impossible to combine,
People are stating things are tech trance because the techno songs have melody?
If tech trance does exist it is the sewage waste washed from the gutters which are filled with hard trance run off, Marco V has produced techno tracks, and has produced trance tracks, but there is a difference between them, tracks like recovered have heavy emphasis on melodies and builds, they are high energy hard trance tracks other tracks have a minimalisation of the use of synths and incoperate them into the beat hence creating a techno song, of medium quality most of the time from marco, or lower. Marco V's true strenght lies in his ability to produce hard trance.
Mauro Picotto is techno, with exception for komodo which is trance and some of his work under aliases which is cheesy comercial trance (CRW) and some house tangents. The alchemist EP is pure techno, and much of picottos releases are pure techno.
The difference in an over simplified look of trance and techno tracks layout's was once put like this
Techno: =============================
Trance: ===^^=====^^^^^^^^====^^^^^==
this meaning that techno is an elaborately constructed combination of loop variations with melody intertwined but not the focus, where as trance puts minimal focus on the percussion loops and vast emphasis on recreating someone elses synth melody with a one note variation of the earlier production in an attempt to capitalize of past success (of course there are acceptions and good acts in trance but they are few and far between)
About 95% of what i have seen classified as tech trance is either hard trance or epic trance. The people claiming cosmic gate is tech trance probably claim kai tracid is acid trance.
For a final note i will just say this, the line between trance and techno is so slim virtually no tracks can balance here, and for so few tracks to fit into this description for anyones sake it would be better to claim hard trance which is what most of the people mistake for tech trance anyhow.
One thing many TAs whom dont know much about techno (this meaning the people who have heard hardly any techno, can't name techno songs, and think just because there is a melody in a track its trance of some form. Not implying that TAs dont know what techno is, just targeting the ones who don't.) need to keep in mind is techno does contain melodies, its rare to have it with out it. Thus because you probably arent yet familiar with the borders of trance and techno tech trance is the easiest cop out.
Genre battling is demeaning to music though, I feel genres main purpose should be to aid djs in shopping for music,
With out genres i might be subjected to listening to hard trance, or hard house on vinyl websites with a variety of music and have to rant for an hour about how bad it was.
If you truly believe tech trance is a genre then i believe ishkur gives the best summary of what it is. |
