Manicured Lawns

One of my pet peeves is manicured lawns. Seems some of the folks in the neighborhood have them whereas "if it's green it's grass" at my house. Folks are even hired to make the lawns look like a green carpet when no kids or golfers will even use them. What's the point? Inquiring minds gotta understand the mentality.

I agree, but my reason is for environmental reasons:
1. Lawn mowers pollute like hell.
2. Fertilizers and pesticides end up in your drinking water.
3. Watering is a waste of resources (especially during the day).
4. All the dam noise pollution from mowers, blowers, and weed whackers.
Oh it's also a waste of time. |

So "if it's green it's grass" is cool. Reminds me, gotta get one of the kids to cut my backyard. The "grass" is about knee high. BRB.....

| I think one of the requirements to live in suburban Long Island is to be obsessed with your lawn. I despise them as well. A total waste, and it takes away from the chaotic beauty of nature-they look like some cookie-cutter creation out of pleasantville. But, we can't forget all the spanish guys who have jobs because of it. |

Funny you should mention that, you should see So Cal, reminds me of slavery, they bring in a landscaping mexican work force for the day, and then ship them out at the end. Gotta love the plantations errr I mean gated communities. :wtf: |

| some people actually take pride in their lawn appearance. And there's not much more satisfying then walking barefoot in perfectly soft green grass. |

| I hate mowing my lawn...I get it done as quick as possible and it usually turns out like and my parents get pissed but I'm like "it's just grass dammit" |

mowing the lawn = thing I hate the most.
Growing up I'd be ok doing pretty much any house tasks but taking care of the lawn is the one thing I hated, hate, and always will.
It's just one of these things that gets on my nerves soooooooooooo much! :whip: |

Ever live next to somebody who doesn't take care of their yard? I do, and it sucks. They have somebody else cut their grass once a month if we're lucky, never cut their bushes, there are leaves all over the back yard from fall of last year still...
So what you say? Well we found a dead mouse on my back porch a few months ago (I've never saw a mouse in this area before), I saw a snake in the summer (rarely see them around here), and the leaves stink in the heat because they're decomposing.
Point being, if you don't take care of your yard then it will attract rodents. Where there are rodents there are animals that eat rodents as well... |
