John Case - The Genesis Code
mystery, religion and similar feel as the brown books. i havent finished it yet, but this far it is very good.
Q by Luther Blissett could also be of interest for you, but thats more in the style of Umberto Eco (who wrote "the name of the rose", made movie with connery and slater) |

Demian - Hermann Hesse :)
and right now I'm reading The tragedy of a genius don't know the author.. but it's amazing.. he talks about mental states of certain historical figures of higher intellectual aptitudes (inventors, philosophers, writers, painters..) arguing that a mind of a genius works in an abnormal manner due to such high awareness and mental power, so much so in fact, that a normal person among a few of them would feel completely irregular

I had to read Steppenwolf for a class I took, and I must say it was one of the more messed-up books I've read. If that one is any clear indication of Hesse's style/ideas, I'd be wary of any other books from him! |

Read it again. You might develop more of an opinion on the second read. (at least, that's what I do)
I read Catcher for the first time while I was in Highschool. Loved it. I immediately re-read it. Now, I read it once a year or so. (mostly because my memory sucks, and I wanna refresh it... but really because I just like the book)
Recently I read Prozac Nation, by Elizabeth Wurtzel (sp?). Fantastic book. When I read it, and got a glimpse into the life of someone with severe bipolar disorder and depression, it helped me understand alot of what they go through. I have a friend who has to take lithium, and other mood stabilizers, and now I understand the struggle she goes through to just try to be normal. Makes me appreciate her and her efforts.
I'm currently reading Wicked: the life and times of the wicked witch of the West. (it's in my car.. so not sure of the author)
LOVE IT! I loved the Wizard of Oz, and this book shows the witch's life, and didja know, that she and teh Glinda the Good Witch were roomies in college? Glinda wasn't always so nice. |

Cosmos and Contact (i've heard) are phenomenal. Cosmos was in the thrift store i go to for 10 cents, but i neglected to pick it up :(
As for Catcher in the Rye, who was it that read it and then went crazy or something and tried to assasinate someone? whoever it was tried to assassinate a celebrity or a president or something, but i cant remember.
or did i just pick up some urban myth about it? |

Isn't it so funny how people will find a way to blame their actions on ANYTHING?
Another good book for you girls out there: The Girl's Guide to Hunting and Fishing by Melissa Bank.
It's a great read. I thoroughly enjoyed the dating/ hunting comparison. Check it out. |

What a great book! I read this one back in college...
...the last book I have read and am rereading now is the Sun Tzu's Art of War, Denma Translation...great stuff if you are interested in trying to figure out some of life's peculiar situations you find yourself in from day to day.
The translation is readily available on the intarweb, but without various essays and explanations that published editions provide. |
