deeply sadened by the death of one of the great presidents. ronald reagan , like some say, did loads not only for his country but for diff countries aswel...he was one, if not, responsible for knocking down that berlin wall and united communist and non communist germans. brought back families that were separated for years. in america, looking back in american politics, he generalized the 80's...i was born in the 70s. i was still young when president reagan was in office and of course like plenty of us in this board didn't really understand his policies as a whole. but as to what i am seeing he did alot for the people in my country. that i'am proud of him :D i mourn his passing .A GREAT MAN AND A GREAT LEADER rip PRESIDENT REAGAN
cheers

1. Got bunch of our boys killed in Lebanon.
2. Wasted a load of money on nukes and starwars missiles system we've never used.
3. Took credit for winning the cold war even though the Soviets would have collapsed on their own.
4. Secretly traded arms to Iranian terrorists for hostages.
5. Conducted an illegal war in Central America.
6. Cut taxes and ran up a giant deficit (sound familiar?).
7. Based his fiscal policy on "voodoo economics".
8. Perfected the "I can't recall" alibi. |
1. Muslims killed your boys, not Reagan.
2. Those nukes provided the deterrent to a Soviet first-strike.
3. Soviets would not have collapsed when they did without pressure from Reagan (arms buildup, etc.).
4. You don't care about the lives of hostages?
5. Prevented the Soviets from opening up a southern front to attack America. Preventing totalitarian communism is a noble cause.
6. The deficit was due to the aforementioned arms buildup that led to the Soviet collapse (the peace dividend). The tax cuts led to the economic boom of the 1980's.
7. See above.
8. He had Alzeimer's, give him a break. He was telling the truth! |

Ironically, while watching some old footage of Reagan I saw someone hold up a sign that read "Croatians for Reagan."

Somehow I find that defending Reagan's arms buildup when we already had enough nukes to blow up all of the USSR's major cities rather strange. And he was the first presedent to start making all the tax laws really start favoring the rich and big businesses. He also made the claim that "there are no mentally retarded people", and thus cut healthcare programs for them.
In spite of all that, now he's dead, so give him a bit of peace and respect, even if you hate him, especially since he had alzheimers. |

from a historical standpoint, reagan was incredibly important as he helped organize previously fractured conservative groups and gave the religious right a foothold in american politics that it maintains to this day. It's highly unlikely that Republicans today would hold the same sway had Reagan not come along.
Also, because of his charisma and 'presidential' demeanor, he proved to be one of the most skilled propagandists in american history -- a fact perhaps made evident by the love he's receiving by tranceaddicts today...
(for all TA's professing love for the gipper, remember that it almost certainly would've been the unrequitted kind, as he would've found most of us to be drug-addled heathens who are blight on society and who should be tossed in jail) |

that aint kool man, youre such a complete ignorant fool...you never in your life met the guy, so who are u to judge him... just respect the guy...he died, now another family is mourning a loved ones loss, that sucks...we dont need those kinds of comments here in TA...no one should ever deserve to die, especially if that certain person never did anything to deserve it...

exactly. and i would like to remind all of the people here who claim that Reagan was the man who brought the USSR down, that's wrong.
1. Gorbachev's policies of glasnost and parastroika
2. The USSR satellite states looking for independency
3. The split in the Duma of the "reformist" Communists and the
hardliners.
4. Gorbachev being put under house arrest and Yeltsin coming to
rescue him
5. Yeltsin becoming Head of the Parliament and being a "reformist"
Communist.
There are a number of other reasons why the USSR fell. I'm not saying that Reagan didn't have a hand in ending the Cold War, but one must remember things like the Reykjavik Accords (and how they failed) and the pressure that the Church and the Pope (being a Polish man from the time of Lech Walesa) put on each superpower. |

I dont get why so many people in England defend Reagan...
If you defend Reagan then you defend the gasing of the Kurds in northern Iraq... simple as that. Without our funding, technical support (yea, you too England and West Germany, infact the fermantation tanks used in the production of VX nerve gas were fabricated and given to Iraq by West Germany) this would not have happend.
As you can see in the pictures posted by hardcore trancer of the attack on the Kurds.
Reagan was a sneaky man, just like our current president, and we will never know his true destructivness.
Ohh and that bull on defending the US from a southern attack is crap, he gave money to Iran to fund the Contras in there fight against the Sandanistas in Nicuragua. The Contras used terrorist methods such as random shootings and car-bombs to de-stablize a productive and peacefull socialist government. Then after proding from the US the Sandanista government finally held a vote, and they were peacefully elected out of office.
So if you like to mourne the death of someone who funded terrorism, aided in the use of chemical weapons, and also lied to us and the world (look up John Poindexter) then thats fine by me. |
very well said man,I just wish people could open their eyes more and see whats reality and whats not.
you know whats funny is that if Hussein died people would be proclaiming their love of his death and that they hope he is burning in hell,Reagan is the same and people are sad?? |
