First of all , I would say english people who said they should have win 1-0 are net very objective.
France dominated all the match , we didn't defend during 2 half times.
I'm agree it's a quite impressive tactic , France never have been able to strike in good conditions and I still don't know why they tried long air center whereas English was much better in this kind of game. But telling it's luck (for the first goal) is unfair , they tried during all the 2nd half-time to find faults in your defense system and they finally got it at the end. What does it care if it's 90 or 80 or whatever? They obtained a free-kick in the same way Beckham obtained it before your goal.
You missed the penalty , bad luck , nice stop. It was the only one dangerous situation you created. (And I have to say Sylvestre should have been expulsed). Other countries can thank you now , they all now france isn't invincible (so far). Your team impressed me , although I'm not sure that you will go far in that competition with this kind of game (Notice, it is what Italy practiced in 2000). I hope we will
meet again in the last game for the revenge ;) |

After reflection and discussion among other England fans, it simply comes down to two things...bad luck for England caused by 3 untimely mistakes and mental errors. The first being Beckham taking the kick, when Vassel, Lampard or Rooney could easily have taken it given the fact that Becks was Barthez's teammate a few years ago. Heskey's foul was unnecessary and aggressive. I don't know what Gerrard was doing passing the ball back....he had ample time to blast it in the stands.
But the mark of a good team is when they capitalise on chances. France did just that and won the game. But any objective football fan must admit that fortune was kind to the French on this day.;)
England will bounce back and advance, I'm confident of that. |

OMG!!
Did the brits get a bit pwned by the master himself: Zinedine Zidane??:D Great ing game especially for us that support the french...
Honestly the brits themself ed it up.. If Beckham had scored from his penalty i think the brits would have won but he didn't so Zidane came and showed why he is the best football player on earth...:D |

if you watched the game then you would have seen that it was actually heskey and gerrard who pwned:rolleyes: england. Zidane did nothing to deserve the goals he scored, but if you give away free kicks so close to goals and penalties then he is bound to score. |

France may have had more possession but how many goalscoring chances did they actually have? Other than a good header from Trezeguet which went just over the bar, very little. David James was hardly troubled all game. Man of the match for me was Rooney, although if he had passed to Vassell instead of going past Silvestre we'd have been 2-0 up and Beckham wouldn't have taken the penalty. That's the thing, there are so many 'ifs' in this game and all of them were unfortunately down to England, not France.
You say that France tried in the second half to find faults in the English defence and eventually did. I disagree, everyone in England cringed when Heskey was brought on because he has a history of ing up at crucial times, most of us don't even want him in the squad. Zidane was on the edge of our box looking for options when Heskey comes and makes a trademark blunder. Suddenly France are back in the game. And France did nothing towards the 2nd goal, England only had to kill another 10 seconds and it was over, we had possession and were under no pressure. You have Gerrard to thank for his unbelievable backpass to Henry for your second goal.
However I wouldn't lay the blame at any individual player for our downfall, to lose the way we did was just spectacular bad luck. On another day we could have won this 2 or even 3-0 it just wasn't to be. |

GGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
So shocked with that result, how the hell we threw it away is a big a mystery as why women go the toilet in pairs.
Ashley Cole should have dealt with the ball not Gerrardas he was facing the right way.
Only saving grace is i get to see the quarter-final now |

How do you figure that out, England had a greater amount of possesion in the first half, while the second was evenly matched. And the goal scoring chances were few and far between but even.

So the goal we scored wasnt a dangerous situation either? |

I dont know about my fellow englishmen but at half past 9 last night i was close to tears. I couldnt beleive that we had lost so cruely.
To all your Frogs legs! you are the european champions. You have probably, on paper, THE best team in the world. You did nothing to suggest anything at all to say that these are an accurate description of your team! You tried everything yesterday to break down a risiliant defence and you never succeeded.
Best player? Rooney. I think he was the best player on both teams. He feared no french player what so ever and when he ran at them it scared the out of u.
Heskey as usual messes up and his inclusion is beyond me but Sven has always liked his "work rate".
I feel sorry for Beckham. People will say that he should not take the penalties, but who else can? It takes allot of balls to step up, and our goldenballs is the captain! Unlucky i say.
I think we should take this as a spring board to the competition. France tried everything they had to create chances in the second half and they did nothing apart from cross balls that were met with english heads. Both france and england will rip apart Croatia and Switzerland if they both play like they did yesterday.
We'll see you in the final France (if you get there:p ) |

i really thought after the 1-0 that the game was done ...england would win but fortunately it didn't happen like this but i think if france ...well if we want to win zizou and his mates have to improve their games and positions there is no denyin that england is a strong team ....but this victory is just something done ...but they have to stay concentred on the next matches ....
but yeah im glad we won last nite ....that's though somewhat sad for england but that's the game !:D |

Indeed, as a captain Beckham has to take responsibility and he probably took the guts to take the penalty, imagine if Rooney took the penalty and missed? the papers would kill him, absolutely abuse him, and no kid needs that :/ Rooney was absolutely ing awesome tho, that move he did on Thuram and the run to earn the penalty, absolute quality :)
Although Beckham took the penalty, it was bloody stupid of him to, considering Barthez has had to face him millions of times in the past in training in penalties on the training pitch.
Bah :/ I cant believe how lucky the french are, did you see Frank Lampard's comments? they were very agressive! I dont blame him tho, a lot of the French players and fans were singing a song of Victory, and Lampard was severely ed off and seeked revenge.
I hope so too, cause no team deserved that cruelty. |
