Hello fellow TA's!
Today is the start of a New Way! -- This election guarnteed it.

The Liberal minority shows Canadians did vote responsibly. Democracy exists in Canada and that means CANADA WILL STAY UNITED! What does that mean for you?...per Blair Wilson it's Jobs! Jobs! Jobs! and 2ndly education and job retraining. It's a clean start for Martin and a good time to protect public health care, oppose weapons in space, implement kyotto, fund our cities and communities, start a national child care program, decriminalize Marijuana and make a sustainable economy. How Martin will move beyond a resource-based economy is what I'll be watching for in the months ahead. But in his words "he pledges that as a party they will do better and will make minority work for a better Canada still
------------------------------------
Conservatives regained some strength (good for them). Hopefully they'll play fair...and I also hope, rather than believe, that they'll stop with the propagandas and take a more proactive approach for a change.

But most importantly, Canadians have spoken....and they've said THAT WE WILL KEEP OUR CHARTER OF RIGHTS AND FREEDOM!
That's a resounding...NO TO SELLING OUT CANADA TO THE USA! NO TO A DRACONIAN DEATH PENALTY IN CANADA! YES TO ABORTION RIGHTS! and YES TO GAY RIGHTS!

Will the Conservatives start doing some good, rather than building the blocks to win their majority at the next election? Let's see what's going to happen.
------------------------------
BQ -- they're back and with a promise to bring a constructive spirit, with respect to a great nation -- The Canadian Nation!. It's good Duceppe is there to protect the French interest...they are Canadians too. Le Canada vous accueille aussi!!!
---------------------
NDP doubled their seats and did fantastic! and IMO they will help keep the Liberal's in check for the social programs and all their campagn promises.
I doubt they'll be able to abrogate NAFTA, particularly Chapter 11 (which give corp's a right to sue governments if law affects assumed future profits)
But most significant are the political comebacks from Ed and Alexa....WoW....this is exciting :eyes: I'll be watching to see if Ed's still got a hot head on his shoulder (LOL--wonder if he still turns beet red and his blood pressure explodes at debates)
----------
The Green Party - finally qualify for Federal Funding. I'll be watching them closely to see how they will work to ensure health care improves and a sustainable economy exists in Canada. Perhaps they will help influence the Liberal to finally tax industries that are harmful or polluting.

Congrats to all who voted!

The best speaches:
1 - NDP, Jack Layton. Though short, it was by far the most sincere and humble that I have ever heard. He congratulated all the candidates and expressed his hope to work together for the benefit of all Canadians.

2 - Liberals, Paul Martin gave the most greatful...thanking all for making Democracy work. He said his party is indebted to Canada and is glad that we are expecting more from them. They will continue building values and keep priorities, while maintaining and earning our trust *so parliament can work for Canada*. He vows that the party will show Honesty, Integrity and a deep Respect for Taxpayers. Furthermore, he will work for all the regions of Canada and expects that Quebec can now express it's difference--so that together it can work to make Quebecors want to remain with Canada.
His minority will preserve and strengthen social program, build, unite and bring Canadian's together to make a great country and greater Canada still.

3 - BQ, Gilles Duceppe gave a very sincere speach and vowed to keep a constructive spirit to make things work. His mandate shall continue to ensure that Quebec's interest are recognized and respected.

4 - Conserv. Stephen Harper....gave IMO a very arrogant speech. putting emphasis on battle and reciting the usual conservative speach---vowing yet again to continue fighting to win a majority. If I were to judge this as a sporting event...I would say this party shows very poor sportsmanship. Especially when I heard the comments made against the Liberals and despite acknowledging how they gained seats, will continue to push for their party beliefs while in parliament.
I am truly ashamed that Canadians will still have to endure those actions by Conservative business' that vow with a heavy hand to punish us for voting democratically.

Now.....let's get back to the regularly scheduled topic.....ELECTRONIC DANCE MUSIC!

Peace All :D

At least the NDP and Liberals still dont make a majority which means they will need conservative support. I think the best thing that could happen for the country no matter who won would be a conservative-liberal coalition so that for the first time that i can remember Canadians would have a government that represented the MAJORITY of voters.

hhhhmmmm, I don't think so...the Conservatives are the "official" opposition, but Layton holds considerably more power than Harper, despite his party having a fraction of his seats.

The Liberals and NDP combined have exactly 50% of the seats...one seat short of a majority, true...but really all they need is that ONE Green Party vote (and Green and NDP are the two closest parties, I'd argue) or ONE Bloc vote to pass legislation. I think Martin will have a much easier time working with Layton and one Green Party member than he would with Harper. In fact, I'd put money on NDP cabinet representation to lay the foundation for a good working relationship between the Liberals and NDP.

Harper is going to have to modify his ideology far more than Layton if he wants any kind of "power" and input into this government, IMHO.

Whatever the case...I really do hope all parties come together and make this work...the last thing Canada needs is a term full of in fighting where nothing meaningful gets done.

I really don't care for "I told you so" nonsense, because this isn't about anyone being right or wrong...but I must admit that I was somewhat amused with the results, given Harper's recent (and arrogant) suggestions of a majority win for the Conservatives. :stongue:
