I loooooooooove Macs and their design, and I would LOVE to have one but everything I do for school and work is PC based so it's really pointless and not economical for me to get one :(

Does anyone here have any cool Macs and what do you guys think about them? :happy2:

My brother has the titanium power book and it kicks ass.

Having used macs at various times throughout my life, I'm less impressed with them now than I was five years ago. Windows may have started out as a cheap rip-off but it's pretty much caught up in terms of both interface and stability. Macs occupy the same technological niche as Beta, LaserDisc, and videoconferencing hardware - solid technologies with a lot of potential but also high prices and little support, which were eventually abandoned in favour of low-cost alternatives (VHS, DVD, and webcam).

I really wouldn't recommend it. Sure, they seem great, but if you're working in a Mac price range then you could just as well get an Alienware PC that would be just as great. OS X was a great idea because Linux is the wave of the future, and mac hardware is superior to PC hardware in almost every way, but the problem, as always, is that developers simply don't take advantage of these features. Instead they mostly waste their time on the Mac's candy-apple interface, which epitomizes everything I've always hated about Microsoft's approach to software. Unfortunately, that makes it really not worth the time or money to invest in - at least, not yet, not until we can get a clear picture of what direction they're headed in.

Just my two cents. It's like buying a Tiburon, you're sinking a lot of money into something that doesn't do a whole lot other than look pretty.

For the most part I agree with you Diginut. I used to want a Mac so much cuz of their superior stability (to windows, never was a linux fan myself) and their awseme design. They used to be much faster than pcs as well, not by clock speed but just in efficiency their processors were much better. The only reason I would buy one now would be for video editing. Finalcut Pro is the only advantage I see macs having ;p I just can't stand premiere

I still think macs are cool, i just wouldn't buy one

But it looks sooooooooo pretty :tongue2

Actually well I really like is some of their software as well - especially (theoretically) for creative work in design/music/video mac is better.

I got an iPod and I love it - it's an amazing lil toy and I didn't mind giving up a whack of cash for it cause it's so sweet, I've also been an iTunes user ever since it came out on PC and it's pretty much my only media centre now - and it's so powerful now that they've combined it with quicktime it's just great.

What i've seen from their website - MS and similar companies are much more directed towards business, while Mac is much more directed towrds the consumer - and the "creative" niche.

But other than that I don't really know THAT much about Macs other than that they are so awesome lookin' from the inexperienced user's view point. In Buffalo they have the Apple store in Walden's Galleria mall - and I always go in to look around - such eye candy I always want to buy so much :tongue2

The PC has still to catch up on some of the features/performances in the video editing market :/

I wish i had final cut pro 4 on pc...

what I want to see, and it might happen, is OSX on the x86/itanium plateform...

that will bring hardware cost down and envigorate the userbase of the mac, attract more developpers...

I am a mac gurl. I like mac a lot better then PC, because mac owns for design. There are so many programs that are offered on PC that you can't get for mac, and vice versa, so really I have to use both.

Msn for mac, you can't use webcam, which totally sucks. Plus I havn't found a way to get DC++, or any version of DC on my mac. There are many other problems, these are just a few. So basically I just use mac for design purposes, and my PC for "play".
