I think in the electronic music industry its more important to have something unique about you even if its not good, look at dj irene shes a ugly mother ******. but she gay and is obviouse about it (she also says shes felt pvd and tiestos balls up) so shes got something unique that makes people remember her face. Just like olkie and tiesto dont have faces that youd easely forget

Well, the duo that makes up Sensorica don't look "cool" IMO, but I still think their track Few Days Away is one nice song. Then again, they're producers...

But yes, I pretty much agree with the general concensus that the dance/clubbing scene is far different than the mainstream in which looks matter a lot.

from a female point of view:

i think even if a DJ is unattractive to begin with, their career choice adds a few points to their hotness scale just because of the fact that DJing is a fashionable, admirable, "cool" job. i mean, imagine the difference between any average looking guy as a DJ, or as a network admin (no offense to any network admins here!)... obviously being a DJ makes someone appear more attractive to the general population. and it helps them score with the ladies.

i was actually thinking about that on saturday night when i saw Kenneth Thomas, D:Fuse, and John 00 Fleming. all 3 of them were good looking guys with decent style (even D:Fuse's cowboy hat!)... and it made me wonder if they would be as successful if they were fat slobs wearing clothes from Walmart.

with that said... i think Oakenfold is one ugly mofo. :wtf:

awww! :p "fell down the ugly tree and hit all the branches on the way down" and "one ugly mofo" - you guys are cruel! :)

Seriously, I don't think Tiesto's ugly. He's got that sort of Neanderthal-ish square-jaw and forehead look, sure, but at times he's actually cute. He's just got a certain appeal. I wouldn't write him off as ugly at all.

Just me.

The day a trancer's success is determined by his/her looks and uniqueness and stupid gimmick, is the day that trance is truely dead.

Music is about the SOUND and nothing else, at least that is the way it should be.

I agree that no person can truely follow this ideal because we all have our own shallow tendencies, but I think we should all try a bit harder for our own good.

Anne Savage is kinda cute. Not gorgeous though.

I wonder what would happen if the DJ was behind a curtain and nobody could see the person, or maybe a one way mirror so that the DJ could still see the crowd and interact accordingly by playing certain musics. I wonder if you put some unknown kid behind a curtain, then put some huge superstar behind it, who would the crowd enjoy more? The only thing it would depend on was how good the music was.And the crowd would have to not cheat by recognising the tracks and deducing who is playing them.

I seriously wanna see a party where this happens,

yeah I know the DJ's experience is better when he/she is in open air in with the crowd, and happy dj's do play better then not so happy ones, but it would still be interesting to see if people cared more about names or sound

The amount of ugly DJs that at the same time are so popular speaks for itself really.
