finally, i can post...
i have to say that I attended to most parties with techno djs at aria in 2003 and the nights with a good attendance, i could count with one hand. :(
I love techno and want more of it. But some formula has to be found for it to succeed. A smaller venue? Many techno djs in the lineup, big(ger) djs teamed with smaller ones the same night, etc.
I can't blame aria (the club i followed the most) for not trying nights with different sounds... it didn't seem to work good enough. :( |
I dont understand this comment...more techno? I thought the 2 main residents for Aria were techno? You get it almost every weekend, why would you need more? Every single time Ive been to Aria, there has been techno. Maybe the reason the headliners dont do as well is because people dont need to spend the extra money when they can hear the same tunes being played in the same club the other 51 weeks of the year.
If Aria had a trance resident that played every week, the last thing I would be doing is complaining about the lack of trance. |

euh dude, you're completely wrong.
would you go to a club that would have the same trance dj residents week after week? wouldn't he play the same tunes week after week?
I'm pretty sure Kate was talking about guest djs. And thru 2004, there have been very few nights with techno djs guest.
As I know Kate, I don't think she meant more trance guest djs ;) |

Kate, I can't talk for Stereo because they only book house and some prog djs.
Circus and Gravity, I don't follow them much... and Sona is dead.
the only club with a diverse lineup is still aria... but its true that diversity has taken a hit recently. |

| I agree with Kate....the big headliners of Cream have all come to mtl in the last 6 months (btw, yeah desyn did too...end of february)....NOTHING NEW.....I personnaly think the lineup sucks...and I wont be going for sure.....but plz tell me Dave Clarke is still spinning at Aria as a pre-Cream........ |

I was just using trance as an example, since I am most familiar with it. If a trance DJ was a resident, I would be there every single week (if I lived in Montreal, of course). Just like a few on these boards who go every single week to see Preach. Ask them if they are tired of listening to the same tunes. You do know that DJs buy new records right? They dont play the same tracklist every single time.
Again, if I had a trance resident I could see every single weekend (someone equivalent to Preach's stature) I wouldnt be complaining about a trance headliner only coming every 3 or 4 months. Thats just me though, since I really dont give two s about who's playing the music. As long as its good, Im happy.
Thats just my point of view. |

I haven't been to Gravity yet.. they have had some interesting lesser known headliners play there in the past few months though, I am sure a big factor in their bookings is the economic$, I don't expect to see Tiestooooooo there anytime soon, but bare minimum they get brownie points for the efforts anyway... it's not stagnate at least!!
Circus.. had a ray of hope with a few bookings.. but not much as of late that has caught my eye.
Stereo.. well, they have their niche.. If they aren't feeling the hit from competition, then by all means carry on. Their Fridays have more potential though.
Oliver Lieb @ Stereo was pretty dope.. haha.. but I don't think they realized what to expect with him. |

I love house (and the CREAM line=up), but I understand what you are saying all too well. Here in Toronto we have the same problem with the lack of diverse lineups and up-and-coming talent. Yes, there are a lot of great TO locals, but no really new up-and-comers.

Wizz will be playing in 2 weeks, i'll take my ass to the club to witness how many people will be in the club. Since he should play similar tunes as PVD, Tiesto, Armnin and Corsten, there should be the same amount of people...
man gimme a break. still makes no sense. You know that its the name who attracts people, not the tunes dropped.
* i have obviously nothing against Wizz I'm just using that party as an example, because its the next trance event. * |

so we come back to what Kate said......afterhour is a bu$ine$$ so owner brings djs for the crowd they draw...not the talent they have etc....
