| If as a dj you wanna break new markets and play at "A" clubs like Aria or Stereo, you need to be a household name. Until you make it big you play in and around your base of operations! Because what sucks is when you promote a night and you lose like 15 g's because you're booking a lesser known talent instead of a household name! |

man gimme a break. still makes no sense. You know that its the name who attracts people, not the tunes dropped.
* i have obviously nothing against Wizz I'm just using that party as an example, because its the next trance event. * |
Is Aria promoting that he plays trance? Otherwise how will people know? Hes never played there before and I dont think many people know who he is...But still, props to them for booking him and Yahel. I'll be there, and so will the people who want to hear trance.
To quote myself from my last post: | quote: | Again, if I had a trance resident I could see every single weekend (someone equivalent to Preach's stature) I wouldnt be complaining about a trance headliner only coming every 3 or 4 months. Thats just me though, since I really dont give two s about who's playing the music. As long as its good, Im happy.
Thats just my point of view. |
Im still trying to figure out where I said that Wizz would draw the same amount of people as a Tiesto or Armin. All I said is that I wouldnt be complaining if these guys only came every 3-4 months if there was trance every week at a club.
I wish I was in your shoes though...getting to hear my favourite style of music every week at a killer venue would be a dream. |

well you assume that people only care about the tunes dropped, which is not the case (sadly). I took Wizz as an example. |

Yeah, they should have booked him to open for a more well know trance DJ. That way more people get exposed to the local talent. Hopefully that happens in the future.
Anyway, we are drifting away from the main issue of this thread. Ive said all I needed to say. |

the main issue is:
-not enough diversity
which impact the bookings of less known talents... |

I would have liked to see Wizz open for Armin or Ferry. |

I disagree..
This is the way things are *now*.. how do you think half the djs that get booked today got their start in Montreal?? Yes, Aria and Stereo have brought their share, but it mostly dates back further to the BIG parties and when Sona was decent..
they booked the household names of the day (who the hell hasn't played sona!??) but didn't seem to have the philosophy that the djs were coming to *their* club, but more, they were showcasing the djs to *their* patrons.. ;)
This isn't a Sona vs. Aria debate, but it's a sad reality of the current state of affairs, more a change of the times.

Well any promoter losing 15g's on a 'lesser known' headliner should seriously reevaluate their business plan..
I don't claim to be privy to the details concerning booking fees etc.. but to put things in perspective a bit, the following 4 techno headliners could be booked for about $10,000 (+flights etc):
Ben Sims (UK)
Chris Liebing (Germany)
Danilo Vigorito (Italy)
Cari Lekebusch (Sweden)
I'm not suggesting in the least that a promoter should go out and try to put a night like this together, but it's not that the math isn't there to make it happen, that is bullshiiite. |

| theres ALOT of money on the line. Paul Van dyk, tiesto and john digweed are going to bring people in. if i had a couple of hundred thousand on the line tied in stadium rent, security, sound etc.. i wouldnt be gambling on cari lekebusch to bring people in. but i guess that doesnt mean a little more variety wouldnt hurt.. |

ya seriously..
not much entices me to go the distance.. Claude Young recently would have been dope.. *rescheduled* or whatever the hell that means..
I would have liked to have seen this lineup on a Thursday though:
March 11 @ Distrikt (after the WMC) Blue Bookings presents:
Marco Carola
Mauro Picotto
Danilo Vigorito
Gaetano Parisio
Probably would have been fea$ible to have a pit stop in Montreal too. ;)
that's a lot of italian techno, but the opportunity was there.
