| the cheese isnt ruining or hurting the trance scene, we dont need people who instantly think EDM sucks because they heard DJ Mystik - Moonlight shadow |

man, these kind of threads wear me out |
oi dude, that smilie (i think thats what it should be called) should win one phatt award... i scrolled down and he was still, then SLAM, not what i was expecting, lol... gold :D!!
on the dj sammy front...
one track:
DJ Sammy - Sunlight [Pulser Remix] even PvD played it...
but, hmm... cheese is both good and bad, because, warp bros. djsammy, scooter, et al. seems to be the entry path to trance simply because of their radioplay. so i think as well as turn off many people from trance, it draws many in as well who then go on to find the tiesto, avb, pvd etc... |

He plays trance as well. The reasons for Paul not using that word himself is a) he doesn't want to be pigeonholed as a trance dj since trance is far from everything he spins, and b) trance is a dirty word nowadays cos of commercialization etc. |

Paul van Dyk has stated several times he does not play trance. He does not play to cater to a crowd or to bring people to the scene with fluffy melodic, crap anthem trance. Paul is smart enough to realize that he has built a following of dedicated EDM listeners who have respected him over the years for his ingenuity, his production efforts, and his amazing sets. He has no responsibility to introduce "newbies" to the scene.

wierd thing is...he introduced me and about 10 mates to it...and yet now I find his style to be fluffy, melodic anthem trance.. |

How the hell did we get on to PvD again, honestly ... :whip:
He's aways said he plays good edm, and thats all the classification he really gives.
IMHO, more people should be shy about using the T word to describe themselves as well |

Mixmag is written by elitest pricks, who clearly have not much concept of the music BUSINESS, and are so far up their own and certain djs ass its a joke.
When it comes down to it, if something commercial or cheesy is liked by someone, and that person then investigates that genre further on the basis of that track then whats the problem?
if it doesnt float your boat fine, dont listen to it- but dont slate it.
As long as people are enjoying the music and having a good time, leave them to it.

| tbh i think everyone has to start somewhere, and id think it would be fair to say alot of people start off listening to cheese before they move on to the real good stuff. so in that sense i think it helps more than it hurts it |

No the thing is.. what if some people didnt start with cheese.
I know i didnt..the closest i've ever got to cheese while starting out was probably darude sandstorm..I got into oakenfold straight after that.
Same goes with my friend..he likes pvd the moment he heard it and he was a metalhead.
adsda
And we both hate cheese. And my friends who arent into edm think everything technoish sounds like cheese.
Erasxxxxxxxxx
Its easy to influence people into hip hop.Cause it looks "cool"Its easy to influence people into rock/metal cause guys think its "heavy"
Pop is accepted widely cause its "easy on the ears"
But usually when people talk anything about edm.. the first thing on the genral population mims is.."its that gay electronic music right?"
and sorry for the rtrant.. i'm a little dunk and i have ants cfrawling on my feet |

I think someone did a mistake and put Paul's name on the flyer for an Armin gig. |
