B. you can drink on the street.

how do people settle disputes there?

(I'm being a smartass, although I'm basing it on information from a friend of mine that lives in Brasil).

But it pretty much depends on what sort of dispute. I'm not saying there are no lawsuits here though, but sometimes it looks like for us that you guys are a bit extreme about it at times.

Besides, depending on what happened, either it'll take 10 years till your lawsuit is seen by a judge here or you just leave it.

What did your friend say, by the way?

I heard B. was only in certain areas...is that true? (I'm moving there in like 3 months.)

How come we read every week that "some American sued some company/person and won an x amount of million dollars"? This is the image most people here have about the American law (?) system.

I'm not saying these people who don't speak English are not guilty, but I believe they're just a part of the whole. It's like the "Why make money with your own effort, if you can earn money from other people's faults" motto could be aplied flawlessly.

yea americans do it too, no doubt. i was just commenting about my neck of the woods. every time i turn on the news, more and more cuban refugees and haitian & jamaiacans come over here to south florida....and i'd say (for a fact, not my opinion) about 80% of the law suits that I deal with/see are those people. my boyfriend is in the business too as a treating chiropractor for plaintiffs involved in auto accidents...he he has about 5 patients that are american/caucasian. that just goes to show you why i said that.

like i said, not trying to offend anyone. you are right though, it's not only foreigners who come here and do it..just down here, that's all that seem to be doing it.

Non-Brasilians should stay out of Sao Paulo or else you'll get kidnapped or mugged.

i still haven't been to vegas....sitting in a dark, smokey room not knowing if it's 3 a.m. or 3 p.m. just doesn't sound appealing to me though.

i'm sure there are other, better parts though.

No, that's Rio :D

Seriously though, both Rio and São Paulo are like most big cities (I guess São Paulo is the biggest city in the American continent, but I'm not sure). There are dangerous places and there are areas where you're reasonably safe. I don't know what it's got with the lawsuit thing though :p

I'm not offended, and I do believe that many refugees may try to do this :)

I just don't like the "3rd world countries" label very much, but that's me.
