A book(s) written some thousands of years ago and subsequently censored by an undemocratic and manipulative organization bent on controlling the masses through guilt and fear said so?

One thing that I haven't seen mentioned about Americans: frivilous lawsuits.
When I hear about food companies being sued for making people fat, I cringe. It's like America replaced patriotic freedom fighters with whiney-ass little bitches.
The fact that the judicial system is getting made a laughing stock out of because of some of these lawsuits is absurd. There needs to be a "common sense" law passed. |
NO KIDDING. there was a man who sued an old woman for like... 2 mil because he slipped, fell and was injured while he was breaking into her house to rob her. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?!?!?!
back to topic:
the US has a lot of thing wrong.
1) nobody likes trance. its all top 40:D
2) the government lies about everything. even when people have proof of something they say it isnt true. example: area 51
3) john kerry. Im sorry, but i prefer bush over kerry. kerry is evil. now, im not a republican or democrat. im neutral. im not even old enough to vote. lol
4) secret societies run by the gov.
5) the whole seperation of church and state is crap. doesnt work that way.
6)taxes are being spent in the wrong way. we are in so much debt but instead of doing the things to help the economy we waste in on buying the top of the line toilet seats for the white house:gsmile:
7) Bad environmental policy. please people, could we polute any more. we say we are going to help the environment but we dont do .
8) the way the US is trying and sadly succeeding and americanizing the rest of the world. Im trying to get out of this country. last thing i need is to move to europe and actually feel at home.
9) taxes AGAIN. a great example. Here in Wisconsin, our educational system is at an all time low, but instead of using tax money to fund the education system and help todays youth, like me, they decide to spend OUR tax dollars on a new stadium for the brewers. sure, miller park looks cool, but the brewers BLOW. since when did they deserve that.
9) bad laws. i mean some of these laws are ridiculous. just go to google and type in "funny US laws." example: in chicago, its illegal to eat in a restaraunt that is on fire. DUH...
10) gun control sucks. have you read the stats for number of deaths from a handgun. the US has more than anywhere.
11) lazy ass cops. we say that we enforce the smoking laws and gang control, but the cops dont give two s about it. for example. i saw some freaking 5th grade kids smoking last thursday, and a cop drove right by, looked at them, and kept driving. Um.... hello?
12) even after all these efforts to make america terrorist proof, terrorist experts say, the us is more vulnerable than ever.
13) Gas prices. AHHHHH
14) Im tired of typing and you are probably tired of reading this post, so i shall stop. although i am fully aware that there is a lot more wrong with the US of freakin A. |

1. Run by a knob
2. Wanting so badly to be American (it's pathetic)
3. Too many conservative bastards
4. People listen to crap music
5. When they listen to good music they're only doing it for the image
Thats all i can think of so far, I'll come back with more laterz :) |

Gay Marriage is unacceptable in my view and will always be such. The difference between most of you and me is the following
1)I live by different standards, you live by the world's narrow minded view of happiness and self fulfillment, where the world says if it feels good do it and as long as you are not hurting others, it's ok. I live by God's standards where his guidelines are what guides my life, he is my happiness and the reason that I have joy.
2)You view the Bible as a bunch of old people making crap up and you view it as a book with errors. I view it as error free and will always have that opinion.
3)99.9999% of you don't understand the Bible or Christianity and your tainted views don't hold water imo. You can generalize all you want and most of you tend to do that.
4)I'd say nearly 100% of you lack that total sense of fulfillment and you are searching for something to fill that empty hole in your life. The difference with me is that hole is filled in my life and will always be. |

Firstly, I note that you haven't actually answered the question --namely, why is gay marriage unacceptable? All you've done is generalized, misrepresented others and explained why you're better than everyone else.
Once again, why is gay marriage unacceptable?

You have absolutely no idea how other people live -- for all you know you could be talking to a Buddhist. I certainly don't live solely by 'self-fulfillment' alone either.
| quote: | | where the world says if it feels good do it and as long as you are not hurting others, it's ok. |
Not really, I’m not overly concerned by whether 'the world' thinks something is good -- but rather whether there are good arguments to suggest that it is good.
| quote: | | I live by God's standards where his guidelines are what guides my life, he is my happiness and the reason that I have joy. |
Where is the evidence that a god exists, and furthermore -- which god? Zeus? Allah? Ganesh? Why is it that nobody can agree on what these standards are, even followers of the same religion?
| quote: | | 2)You view the Bible as a bunch of old people making crap up and you view it as a book with errors. I view it as error free and will always have that opinion. |
So even if there is evidence that it has errors, you don't care? Whether what you believe is true or not doesn't matter to you?
That kind of attitude can be used to justify anything, a Nazi could say the same thing and by your standards, they'd be perfectly justified in believing that they were a member of a superior race -- irrespective of the evidence.
| quote: | | 3)99.9999% of you don't understand the Bible or Christianity and your tainted views don't hold water imo. You can generalize all you want and most of you tend to do that. |
You've got no basis for making a comment like that -- provide examples of 99% of us generalizing.
| quote: | | 4)I'd say nearly 100% of you lack that total sense of fulfillment and you are searching for something to fill that empty hole in your life. The difference with me is that hole is filled in my life and will always be. |
Again, that's an arrogant, absurd thing to say -- you've got no evidence of everyone somehow being sad and lacking purpose at all. I am searching for something to fill 'that empty hole' -- because there isn't an empty hole to fill. If I made the same statement you just made, you'd be jumping up and down with irritation. |

| I stand by my statement of nearly 100% because I view that the ONLY WAY to achieve true self fulfillment is thru Christ. It's not an arrogant statement, it's reality, going by the comments that are stated in this forum which are usually almost completely anti christian. Some times on this board, I'll agree with others at times but I'm sorry, religion has never been something up for change. The bible is error free, I assume you will attempt to prove errors as most people have tried. I've always said, read the Christian Bible from Genesis to Revelation, jot down all the errors that you think their are and then comeback and talk to me. So far in 23 years, no one has took me up on my offer or even read the entire Bible to do so. The statement still stands, no one has ever proven one single error in the Christian Bible nor will they ever. The Bible's record speaks for itself, it does not need me to prove it's accuracy. Oh and if any of you actually want to try, my pm box is open |

It's always been resistent to it, but it's always changed in the end. Christianity today is significantly different to Christianity in the past -- simply because you cabn't stop progress.

TTA, is the earth flat? Where do dinosaurs come from? How big was Noah's ark?
| quote: | | I've always said, read the Christian Bible from Genesis to Revelation, jot down all the errors that you think their are and then comeback and talk to me. |
I've read a fair bit of the bible, not the whole thing -- but enough for now. The best example is of course the two creation stories -- which, side by side, manage to directly contradict each other. Not to mention suggest that the world is 6000 years old. Come on, do you seriously believe that the world is 6000 years old? If so, why?

I suspect that DrUG_TiTo will have read the entire thing, try him if you're interested. :p

Umm, evolution? |

Let me see here, the dinos, I have no clue
Noah's Ark was the following (Genesis 5 and it starts at verse 11)
450 feet long, 75 feet wide, 45 feet high
Now about the young earth, yes I believe the earth is young and not old. I've never believed that we could simply evolve from a simple cell by random chance. I view the human body as something far too complicated to just evolve over millions of years and we all know carbon 14 and all the dating processes were never accurate in the first place. I do realize that no amount of facts on my part will change anyone's mind, you have to deal with your own fears and problems and your own beliefs. Beliefs are individual and everyone has to make a decision about that at some point, I can't make it for you. I made my mine and I'm happy with my decision and I'm not losing any sleep over it. |

I've read the bible in grade school(went to catholic school for 10 years), bible school, and church for nearly 20 years but how much I still remember is up in the air. In high school I started questioning most of the bible and while I believe in a god, how can you say that the christian bible is correct over any other religion's bible? If everyone thinks their bible is correct and they all say different things then someone(or everyone's) must be wrong as there can only be a single right. You can't prove anything in the Bible, wrong or right.
The bible is way out there in a lot of things, and at least to me must be entirely symbolic because it can't be literal. From what I have read I have moved to a more logical approach of evolution. I think you can see this in different human races, they evolved to cope with different changes in climate and weather. Darker skinned people lived in hotter climates, asian people developed skin over the eyes for the cold temperatures and wind, etc etc. These are evolutionary changes over many years just like we have evolved from cavemen with smaller teeth because we don't hunt like we used to and less hair on our bodies because we have clothing now. |
