It's got nothing to do with abusing the system - it's simply a matter of placing restrictions on the immigration, a matter of saying: Hey, no problem, you're welcome to stay in our wonderful country, but we expect you to pitch in whenever you can. Your room's in the basement, I'll show you down there.

There ARE restrictions on immigration, and immigrants get interviewed to see if they can contribute to Canadian society. It's not as easy as you make it sound to be to become a landed immigrant. My family knows this first hand, does yours? |

^ to get permanent residence might be hard, but there is virtually no prosecution of illegal immigrants and virtually no checkups on refugees either. Sorry, but I have firsthand experience with several people who have lived in this country for more than 5 years and can barely speak any English, which indicates to me that the laws are not that tough.
Superstar, when did your family come here? It sounds like you and Malek are thinking of immigration policy 15 years ago, or maybe even 5-10 years ago, but the system is becoming more and more lax with each coming year. |

I still found their system far superior to here. |
Ours is very simple and more bus orientated, plus, their city has a center point that just spreads out, much like New York, so they had to get a system that sprawls all across the major district areas and nearby cities. I find our subway cleaner though, but just ten times more simpler than what they have. |

Yep you're right... we came here about 13 years ago, but I'm interested in why you think the system is more lax now. Have they changed the criteria for accepting immigrants? Cause honestly I thought it wouldn't be much different than it was back then. I hope your reasoning isn't based solely on the number of new immigrants being accepted each year. |
