Question for the bush-bashers

Before reading this, please note, my intent is NOT to spark another political debate about Bush here. In fact I'm really hoping I can get some honest answers without having to argue about specifics. So anyway, this is my question...

The most basic principles of social etiquette tell us not to take the unnecessary risk of offending people whom we don't know by voicing strong political or religious views out of the blue. We all have varied opinions on things like affirmative action and welfare and tax cuts but we generally don't try to make a forceful point about them unless someone specifically asks us, "well what do you think of [Bush/welfare/the existence of God]?" In other words, I always enjoy political debates but I believe that most of us don't "go there" unless we know that we're on safe territory with our peers. The "forum" here may be a slightly different circumstance but by and large I am talking about *personal* social settings where I believe this to be true.

And yet I've noticed a striking number of otherwise courteous people who feel no shame nor reservations about referring to the American president in the most derogatory terms possible in all kinds of private and public settings. I'm curious as to what you think makes George Bush so different from any other political or religious topic, to such an extent that it is somehow acceptable to voice loud hatred of him without provocation.

Do you not care what anyone else thinks?

Do you simply not realize that you stand a very good chance of making other people uncomfortable?

Do you just think that no intelligent or sane person could possibly disagree with you?

Most of the time, outside this forum, I try to keep my mouth shut when I hear these comments. But it's getting harder and harder to do so as I am starting to hear them at an alarming rate. It's very difficult to go even a single day now without hearing someone mouth off about George Bush. And I'm not just talking about the Toronto forum.

How is this behaviour justified? Please tell me.

Aaron, why don't you start out by justifying your undying love for George W Bush? Please tell us.

We are talking about a president who has led 2 wars in his first term. Alienated the western world from pretty much every 3rd world country out there... pissed off about 1 billion muslim people. Getting American soldiers killed daily (possibly the next vietnam) in a war which shouldnt have happend in the first place. For what? a nickle on gas and to make daddy proud!

p.s A president who cannot complete a sentence if his life depended on it....

If you ask me, the guy is looking for attention :D

Bill Clinton said something when he was on the daily show that i think is worth restating here. I'm recalling this from my failing memory so this is in no way a direct quote. On the show he told John Steward that he felt that the American people as a whole developed this wavering belief that they should not question their commander and chief after the 9/11 attack. Clinton said, and I for one agree with him, that this is the wrong thing to do. People in the US need to question their President once in a while.

I think the large volume of Bush comments are somewhat of a back lash from the lack of comments during the period just following 9/11. Or thats my take on it.

I think the Bush bashing has passed all limits...I mean when the point needed to be made - it was made loud and clear...except that someone forgot to put the breaks on it and all I hear lately is bashing. I feel like I'm gonna start feeling sorry for the poor fool

You know just when you keep trying to justify something over and over and over untill everyone is sick of it already and starting to think that maybe youre trieing to fool them...I feel like we're starting to reach that point right now.

Yeah but I think what he's trying to say is that we can't make them chose their leader

That and...

It's pretty easy to preach about how people should be, what people should do and how people should act when you're not one of them.

As for digi's questions, i can actually i agree with you here. even tho i don't like him very much myself i think too many people that really don't have a clue hate him and continue bashing on him all the time
