Pitbulls

I am thinking about getting one. I was wondering if anybody on here had one and had any advice I should know before buying one.

They're killers. My friend had a pitbull and trained it for kangaroo hunting. The way he used to go about it was to get a friend of his(a guard dog trainer) to suit up and abuse it and then feed it kangaroos. Anyway, I'm not exactly sure how it worked(in fact I'm probably wrong lol) but he could get it to kill any animal at the click of finger:nervous:

I'll tell you right now, I wouldn't want to with a pitbull owner:nervous:

i actually know someone who raises pitbulls. They are very territorial, and will attack anyone who steps into their territory. If they are out of the territory they wont attack however. Its a matter on how you train them.
If i pay this guy a visit one of these days ill let you know what he recommends when buying a pitbull.

My ex-girlfriend used to insist they were the sweetest thing if they were raised right...I'm not really sure, though, I've never owned one.

it goes with all dogs, its not always the dog, but more how you raise him/her. if you love the dog, it will love you back. if you train it correctly, it will act correctly. it IS in some species of dogs, nature to defend there territory with such aggression. if you dont what that, dont buy a pitbull:) i used to have a really big rotweiler, what an amazing dog she was, she was 105 pounds at her peak, not the biggest, but Definatly not the smallest. at the time i had her i lived in a pretty ty neighborhood, but this dog would bark and growl like mad if anyone came close to me. this dog would tear anyone up if she sensed some kind of threat. i could walk that dog at all hours at night at the park, in alleys, doesnt matter, that dog protected me. that you should try to find, or at least somehow train a dog to be like.

so mabye think about a rotty. or find a the most mellowed out pitbull you can hehe

I have a Pitbull that is 1 year and 3 months or so old. They are great dogs if properly raised. Most dog toys last only minutes with her (tennis balls last around 5-10 mins...the last Kong we got her, which was the black "high durability" one, lasted a few days, but she still was able to tear chunks out of it eventually. Stay away from those retractable leashes.

They tend to learn things real fast, making them easy to train.

When we got ours I found THIS message board, where they have lots of knowledge about the breed, and can get some good advice, or pointed in the right direction.

Biggest thing in my opinion is be a responsible owner...dont let your dog get into situations that could get it or you in trouble. They have a bad rap as is, and irresponsible owners are to blame for that.

If you get one, don't let it near other peoples animals, and don't let it get out of your yard alone. No matter how good their temprament, they usually concider other animals as food... And don't put them on a chain, thats just hillbilly .

I hope you don't care about your garden! They like to uproot trees.
I would suggest looking into a staffordshire bullterrier before getting the pitbull, they have WAY better temprament and they are exellent play mates.

Heres mine:

I'm sure you'll rip my head off for saying this, but to me owning a pitbull (or any other "vicious" dog) is like playing with a loaded gun. Sure, it may never go off, but one accident and you're screwed. With all the other breeds of dogs out there to choose from, I don't know why someone would choose a dog with such a horrible track record and ability to do such damage. I'm sure you all love your pitbulls, but I'm not sure why it had to be that particular breed. I'll never own a gun, and I'll never own a dog that could easily do the damage a gun could do or worse.

My two cents.
