| I have to add that Lee Burridge 24/7 I didn't particularly get into, from my point of view he plays weird ! And Fontaines Prototype series was just poo! |

GU018 has to be the weakest effort, dunno where Warren was going with it. Either that or GU026, which was pathetic and a look at me view

i've heard a few of 'em now from various friends, so...
1) the only one that i remember really not liking was Athens / Tenaglia... i heard his London one and it sounded quite different... not sure if i'd changed or he had (it's been a while since i've heard either) but that Athens one was WAY too out-there for me when i heard it... sounded like he was having fun, but i couldn't get into it.
the stuff i've heard by Tony De Vit i didn't care for much either, mostly cuz of the vocal stuff, which i'm not a big fan of.
2) only got GU007... and i don't really like it: most of it is too "glassy" sounding for me.
not that u asked but...
3) the one's i do remember liking were:Digweed
006 Sydney (both CD's) <-- 1st GU i heard!
014 Hong Kong (2nd CD)
Warren
008 Brazil (both CD's) (? i think this was Warren... nm, i googled it)
011 Budapest (both CD's)
Warren's stuff to me is borderline "ambient"... rarely surprising... this is either good or bad depending on taste i guess: but it worked for me.

014 Ibiza (actually, i didn't like this one... go figure) hmmm... i really should go pick up a couple of those older GU's... now that i'm thinking about it, i quite liked 'em. :) |

I find Nick Warren is not really the deejay that people pigeonhole him into being. I find that after hearing all his GU's, he likes to play a lot of tracks with a fierce minimal energy.
I was going to buy GU025 today but I saw GU010 before I got the order and decided to get GU010 and GU017, then ordered in GU009, I get paid 3 times this month, I may buy an extra CD. GU017 is great, it's well done and just as it says in the notes, mixed by Tenaglia himself not a computer. My problem is that I can pick up GU005 if I want now but I need to keep my spending down :(, same with GU025. |

| The problem with the Global Underground series is that there's hardly ever two good cd's. The only GU mixes where both CDs are good are probably Oakenfold's 007 and both the Sasha ones. |

Im not a big fan of GU 12, which will probably get some hateful responses. I never really got into the tracklist as much as some of the other GUs which I find superior, though not really much argument with the mixing (as there shouldnt be)
I own 6,7,10,13,16,18,20-25.
Also, bought a used copy of NB2 recently on EBay. Hopefully will show if I want to buy some of the others or not. |

yeh, that'd sum it up for me... the opener (or was it CD2?) on Budapest did that perfectly.
note to self: drop by Virgin on way to work 2morrow, see what they got. |

Do a search for it on the forums and you'll find many threads about it.. I think it's the cassette version of GU001.. Not sure though.. |

| Just wondering, what do the location names have to do with the mixes? Like, was Global Underground Toronto actually recorded in Toronto? Are they live mixes? Or are the locations just a marketing ploy? |

The CD's are a representation of the DJ's recent sets at the location. I don't think this holds true as much as it used to, but recently you'll also find DJ's giving lots of exposure to the local artists (i.e GU022 featured lots of Aussie artists including Luke Chable and Phil K when NOBODY heard of them yet, and now look where they are)

Thats such an underrated compilation. Barely anyone ever mentions it and imo it's just as well made as GU013. |
