Its riddiculous, by the end of the season atleast 2 of the forwards will be complaining about lack of first team games. They always do, but they knew what they were letting themselves in for. Its called they go for one thing at Man Utd, MONEY :)

I'm a stupid American. How much exactly is Rooney getting paid? It says on Soccernet "Rooney has signed a six-year contract with United, who will pay Everton a basic £20million, with half to be paid immediately and the other half due on August 1, 2005." Now... is that £20million for all six years? Or is it £20million a year that he is being paid? I've always been so confused at how these contracts work. If that's a yearly thing, then that is a whole lot of money!

Basically it's a 27 million pound deal. Ten million is paid now, with another ten paid by next August 2005. An additional seven million will be paid to Everton over a period of time while Rooney plays for Man United. Everton have sold his RIGHTS to Man U and have been given money in return to buy other players. Fairly soon, we'll probably see Rooney sign a contract with Man U that will pay him 50-60 thousand quid a week or more.

I'm sad to see him go, but his agents and brief glimpse into stardom have corrupted the lad. I wish him success as an England international, but how he can go to a team that absolutely HATES scousers (liverpool people) when he himself in a a scouser...well it's just beyond me. I see his agent made 1.5 million on the deal...isn't that a surprise. I can't wait to see his return to Goodison next year...:)

That money has nothing to do with rooney rather it is the amount that United paid everton to secure rooney' services. It means that United paid everton 10 million quid upfront and will pay another 10 million within a year with the possibility of everton receiving another 7 million pounds based on prolly how well rooney and the club perform.

Oh and your not a stupid american..its soccer so you will be forgiven if you just say your american ;)

AHHHH... gotcha. I'm actually an idiot because if I would've read that over, I would've saw that it said Everton, not Rooney. :wtf: Thanks for the info though!

on the contrary. you need that kind of squad depth if you're challenging for honours on 3 fronts. compare with Real Madrid's Raul, Ronaldo, Morientes and Owen.

Real Madrid is the New York Yankees of footy. (And the Yankees aren't even playing that well :p )

Since when has buying 8 mediocre forwards been the solution to problems up front?

And what have Real won with those strikers? Maybe 1 la liga?

Also Real is not the Yankees. 2 different sports and please do not compare shi**y baseball to footy.

Spec dont post your comments are rubbish.

Agreed. Im not very happy about this, especially since united wouldnt spend £20m on ronaldinho or £17m on duff a while ago (ok, that was kenyons fault but still) and they are both well out of rooneys league. I really hope fergie doesnt think rooney is better than saha or smith, he should be our 4th choice striker imo.
