I know, that's the point. The market is saturated with epic/uplifting, and has been for two years now. It's not surprising that trance DJs are adopting a somewhat different sound. I don't particularly approve of it, but it makes sense. |

you make a good point, ive been spinning epic/uplifting for a year, now im getting into more dark techy trance and enjoying the ride so far :D |

I think its cuz prog doesn't have as many sounds in it that people think are stupid. Now, I'm not saying one is better than the other (im still thinking that they are just different spinoffs of the same thing). A lot of people hate high pitch wooshes and supersaws and prog seems to be more about recorded drums and electric notes that are more "neutral" sounding. That is, prog seems to take less risks of annoying people by being as generic as possible so that the more people end up liking it. Trance on the other hand seems to be much more unstable, there are many songs that have a big group of people who go crazy every time they hear them, and another group will get angry and bitch about it. An uplifting trance song can either get massive glory or never go anywhere, but prog has a consistent following but doesn't reach to great heights as often.
I say if you don't like the current music trands, you can't bitch about it until you come up with something better. |

its easy
first i believe that prog make diffrent atmosphere - you know melody,breakdown and maybe (just maybe) its easier to make crowd more euphoric, my opinion is using prog is a better way to tell a story, sometimes you start with something then go next track - bulding the atmosphere and in central point (like in drama in theater) you include just one track - all emotions now explode- and ppl will love you (i could be to much for them if set is good enought and they use drugs)...
second world is changing, people are changing so trance also
last one prog is future but what will be next?
ok here is easy recipt to make massiv prog
- need nice melody
- need some vocal (it could be only some words)
- must have good bassline
- make a brakdown in right time... |

I'm one of those people who are swaying more and more towards the progressive side of trance at the moment.
I've always been a big fan of pure uplifting trance, but I've also always liked prog too, especially the way it can be used to create sets that really flow and take you on a journey rather than just being full on euphoria from the word go. Prog also seems to be a much more mature form of music, and far less 'cheesy'.
So I guess thats why I'm currently loving prog trance so much. It's the best of both worlds. It has the uplifting euphoric elements, but at the same time its more mature and you can really create a good flowing set with it. |

Thanks those that posted,
i agree that prog creates more of an atmosphere and is more generic, trance gets risky becuase thats its high energy nature, in my opinion dropping an epic/uplifting w/ a proggy or techy track would make for good set flow |

one thing I like about prog is that is has fuller sounds.
not only that but its full of reeverbs and echoes if your going for a dreamy track your not going to get there unless you use long echoes and long reeverbs lots on stereo enhancing and lots of EQ-ing.
When people recommended "sasha - airdrawndagger" I bought it and I was actually impressed because it didnt have really lame drums with no FX or anything.

its hard to do alot becuase usually prog is slower, and playing yimanya at +10 is kinda....... funky :crazy:
but i hope to do more blending the future |
