This is one of the more ridiculous arguments of late...
Radagast, you must have a mental deficiency if you think you can win this argument; are you really saying that the trance tunes released in a year don't define how good a year it was for trance? Would you argue, too, that the movies released in a year have no bearing on how good a year it was for the film industry?
I could say more, but I think that you must be the only one that fails to see this, so I will trust you to come to your own conclusions in due time. Oh, and the pseudo-intellectual posting is rather irritating and makes you look silly; I recommend you change your habits. |

Not if you don't back up your reasoning for superior tracks with some kind of facts. The epic trance tracks from 98 are structurally the same as the epic trance tracks from 99. What? They have different sounds? The supersaw melody is arranged just so instead of just so? People are just listing personal favorite songs and judging a genre of music based on that. The argument will consist of "My track is better" "No, MY track is better" without any real reasoning behind any other than it's the one you like. Has nothing to do with whether trance was good that year or not.

I don't know, i'm not interested in nor have I done any research on the film industry. |

For sake people, its all just opinions! We don't need to back up our opinions with facts and a 5000 word thesis. Also saying that each other is wrong is just stupid, you can't be wrong when giving an opinion. I personally feel 1999 was the best for trance, so stop bitching, make love, and be happy. :) |

From what you've said in other threads, you don't actually know when trance was invented, and so you don't actually know what the original trance sounded like. So your argument is flawed and hypocritical. |

What the hell are you talking about?

As a genre in its own right, trance is said to have begun as an off-shoot of techno in German clubs during the early 1990s. The name derived in 1991 from a project of Dag Lerner (DJ Dag) and Rolf Ellmer (Jam El Mar) called Dance2Trance. Their song We Came In Peace is considered by many to be the song that set the definition of trance. Arguably a fusion of techno and house, early trance shared much with techno in terms of the tempo and rhythmic structures but also added more melodic overtones which were appropriated from the style of house popular in Europe's club scene at that time. (Interestingly enough, that style of house was referred to as "club" or "Euro.") However, the melodies in trance differed from Euro/club in that although they tended to be emotional and uplifting, they did not "bounce around" in the same way that house did. |

The KLF were the first to make a trance track, namely What Time Is Love? (1988 Pure Trance Original), two or three years before Dance2Trance. This is the first use of trance as far as I know, and as nothing came before it, that track was the orginal definition of trance.
The 1990 Release of "What Time Is Love?"
The KLF remixed and rereleased the track two years later under the "Live at Trancentral" mix, which admittedly isn't trance, but their original was. And since the original sounds practically nothing like any of the trance made between 1990 and 1996, technically all that trance is also not real trance. |

Now will you provide me with a link somewhere that explains how that track spawned an entire genre that was called trance by many people, or do I just take your word for it? |

Because it was the first track to be called "trance". So it must be the true sound of trance. The fact is trance changed a lot, and sitll is. If you don't like the new sound of trance that's your own problem, but to spout crap like "it isn't real trance" is just idiotic. |

A track can only define a genre of music if it began a genre of music. You're saying one track and one track alone is the definition of trance?...that's pretty idiotic. Dance2trance set the definition of trance because it was followed for years by many artists who copied that sound and also called their music trance. |
