Not to start a huge argument... but what about the rappers that WERE underground and are now pop successes? Do you think they are sellouts just because they got popular?
I remember when Eminem was underground. I remember when I was the only person I knew who had heard of DMX. |

| but there is a difference. some artists start up to get rich and famous, such as 50 cent. others such as dj shadow stay underground. |

| WEll money talks, and when it is being offered to u, why not take it..If i were a rapper, i would most def. be mainstream..thats where the money is at. Of course many dont have the passion to just create music for the love of it, but some DO...cant think of any right now...but, i know for a fact some mainstream artists are in it for the passion. |

OK. I was just curious... So if they happen to make money off of what they're doing then its OK just as long as they don't start making crap purely to sell to the pop market, a la Ja Rule. Did I get that right?
My only contribution to the Underground rap topic is Benefit. The Napster song he did (to win the 'write a song' for Napster competition back in the day) was sick. |

I always liked eminem, and always will. He managed to keep it real while making alot of money, I dont have a problem with that as long as the music is still good.
hes the best lyricist since tupac.
I don't hate mainstream hip hop (Jay-z, Talib kweli, Kanye West, Common)
I hate Cheese (Jkwon, lil scrappy, lil jon)
I love underground hip hop cause its collaberations. Such as Jean Grea, this chick is sick, she rhymes with Wu-tang, Talib Kweli, and the roots, as well as a slew of underground artists like Masta Ace. |

| do you people have some sort of need to feel special or part of the elite, so you pride yourself on only listening to "underground" music that no one has heard of? my god, just because something is popular does not mean it sucks...get over yourselves. |
