Headphones or Speakers?

Just about the only time I listen to music besides in the car is when I'm at my computer, or near it. I prefer headphones because I can listen to my stuff without bothering anyone else in the house, but then again with speakers I can move around my room and still be listening to it. BTW, I'm new the the forums, but have been a TA for years, never been to a rave or club or anything of the sort, but I love the stuff! Been listening to it for about 4 years now. So, what do you all prefer?

When I am in my room I like to listen to the speakers, but when my parents get ready for bed that's when I put on the headphones. In the car I like to have the windows down, music up without a care in the world. :D (well, at least only on the open highway)

I always like speakers cause you can feel the bass more. Headphones are alright, but not the same.

What kind of speakers do you all run, or headphones if you use those also? Let's keep it to computer speakers, since that is all I use heh.

For headphones I use these new Sony ones that look like the Princess Leia (sp?) hair from Star Wars. For speakers I use these cheap no name brand $20.00 pair from Best Buy. I needed speakers and Im not home often enough to use them so those do all right for me. :)

My headphones are the Sony MDR-V600! These headphones in rock. They make everything track sound as if it were being played LIVE!
So it's very hard for me to choose either speakers or headphoens.... meh, who am I kidding... Speakers all the way man, maybe you'll realize this when you get old enough to move out on your own, and you can pound the out of them!

i obviously like speakers because they make my floor rattle...but with headphones u can hear noises where normal speakers dont do that! well i noticed that at least... :eyespop:

Headphones are great because you can buy top of the line headphones and still pay way less than you would pay for top of the line speakers.

I have a pair of Sony MDR-V6's, which are getting hard to find, but are really excellent headphones. Some audiophiles don't like them because they lack definition in the high ranges, but the things have absolutely huge bass. My pair was $70 two years ago.

I also have a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-A900's from Japan...I think they were maybe $250 with shipping. They're really high-def, but don't have quite the bass range of the V6's. They're all around great headphones, and sound simply beautiful. The only problem is that you CANNOT listen to 128k MP3's on them. The phones are just too good - you can hear the distortion.

Keep in mind that all high-end headphones need to be broken in before they sound good. New headphones sound better after 30-50 hours of listening. If you really get into it, it's also best to get an external sound board with headphone amp like the M-Audio Audiophile USB.

I tend to use speakers a lot, but I prefer headphones. My speakers aren't exactly that great and tend to distort.
