Girls need floppy drives for some reason. :(
I just bought above computer for my mom and it works great.
Nothing fancy but definitely not a dog.
And it's separate parts- not a crap dell where if the modem dies you have to buy a whole new motherboard. |

| The Dell deal is a good deal, because it's a high quality processor and most of what you need. I wouldn't get a Duron or anything less than an Athlon in AMD. I also wouldn't recommend a Celeron. But it just depends on what you want. I would go with Dell over us though. We have better quality components on the overall, but that's way more affordable than we are likely to do. The other one with the Duron or Celeron is a good deal, but you get what you pay for. Celeron's and Duron's are the processors that don't meet specs or have flaws. In essence they are the low end for each manufacturer. |

winamp is the most processor intensive program she'll be using :wtf:
plus celerons have gotten better over the past few years. I hear less complaints from friends who have em as of late. |

| I have a Celeron too. A friend built me a computer for free. I would definitely prefer to have Intel on Intel though with a P4. I would definitely pick the Celeron over the Duron though. What kind of motherboard does that one come with? Asus or Abit? |

oh contrare dude ...
that will not be the most intensive program ..
a web script with a recursional function call every 2 seconds will be the shiznit of cpu intensivity ! not if windows doesn't pick it up before you do ..

one thing ive learned from asking for computer advice is everyones opinion is different. everyone has different ideas, different preferenes, and will all provide different PC's to suit ur needs. When u dont know alot about what u asking for advice on, looking at conflicting opinions and different PC Specs will drive u insane.
i know alot myself now, but before i did i found someone who i knew knew their and stuck with them, asking publically on issues that have such a wide opinion only leads to headaches.
tho ill give my 2 cents on self built vs. manufacture. Manufacture offer lots for little money, but as said above, it depends what quality u want ur equipment. If u anaylze the quality of the components, you'll probably find theyre not as good as u could have. Yea, the processer will be fast, it'll have a DVD drive, lots of things, but are they good?
For one example memory latency, this is a quality of the memory, u can have different latancy's, but still 256DDR, which is what the spec will say, 256DDR, not the latency, tho its very important. A hardcore gamer will buy expensive 256DDR, where as someone who just uses word will buy cheep 256DDR, alot difference in price, alot difference in quality, but on the paper, the same product.
it all depends on what u want ur computer to do and how much u want to spend.
tho id try and stick with someone you know fairly well and who can guide you, no offense to the people here but with so many different opnions you'll get pulled in each and every direction.
me personally, would go for a self built. tho im a very dis-trusting person, and like to know for myself whats going on. |

I do computer support for a living and 15 years of computer experience- I think I know what im talking about.
Yes- I personally would not get it for myself- only for the reason I play games and stuff.
I have a p4 2.8 with a gig memory and a radeon 9800 pro.
I know exactly what she needs it for and it will be plenty. |

It'd probably be good enough, but the Dell might not be bad either. Pretty cheap for the specs included. I could have something built for her at my work, but I am sure it will be more expensive than those deals. What kind of board is it? |

| The deal xKaoSx is fine for websurfing, downloading, burning cds, wordproccessing etc. It's nothing fancy and is pretty much intended for you purposes. The Dell deal also looks okay, but it doesn't include a monitor. I wouldn't worry about trying to save money on not including a floppy since a floppy drive only costs like $10. |

dont get a dell: get a geek friend to make one for you
mp3s and pr0n computer inc monitor etc shouldnt cost more than say $1200, thats with a 200gb hdd |
