Thank goodness I won a ticket from that contest for this event. |
word...Although I certainly would have paid the 10 bucks to get into guv if I knew I would hear gaetano as well.
I /heart/ techno. I havent been to a big techno party like that in months. I dont even know how to compose my thoughts, I was like a kid in a candy store (no pun intended) last night, even though it was guvernment and all of the usual guv annoyances still apply.
I caught a bit of Mark O (I think) just before he introduced Side Four. Is side four a live act? because it appeared there was someone doing a PA for the first half, then the dude in the cowboy hat DJing the last half. Anyways, they were pounding out some hard, proper techno very early on which didn't get the crowd going at all.
Chris Liebing - first time hearing him. He was remarkably less schranz-y and relentless than I expected. Nat - the track I was yelling at you about is Thomas Schumacher - Rhythm Queen (Voodooamt remix). It's a picture disc.
Gaetano was who I was there for, but ended up leaving only an hour into his set. Guv was too annoying. god do I ever hate that place!! I was in line for the washroom and watched at least 10 women just walk to the front of the line, ignoring it completely. I hate to be so rude, but the number of really obnoxious asian people was at an all time high. ANYWAYS, when I came out of washroom hell Gaetano was playing Spastik - and from there on his set was fantastic. I was heartbroken to leave but after 4 hours sleep the night before and a good 8 or so beer (!) throughout the evening I knew I wasn't there for the long haul.
Highlights of the night include Graham speaker dancing, RJ asking if the guy I was there with was my HUSBAND (please find me the post where I said I was married RJ!! ;) ) and some guy who had remarkable manners and asked if I was there with someone before hitting on me! lol.
Nice meeting ya Julia (again) and seeing the rest of you - it's been awhile! |

something tells me writing a review wasn't topping the list of things to do once she left the club. ;) |

We weren't planning on going, but around midnight we should up at guv wanting to see Liebing and then found out that KH was closed and everything was in the guv now, so that made for a bit of excitement.
Liebing was awesome he was on when we got into guv and he was sounding good...Parisio was okay, short (1hr), it was like he had just gotten on and then he was done.
THEN there was Picotto, remember the excitement from earlier knowing that i would get to see him.....well that quickly diminished into nothing...Picotto sucked, My opinion but there seemed to be no flow it was all just so random. :conf:
And then to end the night all three djs were spinning together from
5-close? it was awesome, considering I am not a techno freak I still had a really great time
Nice to see all the familiar TA faces last night...CUZO I will keep you posted about the little kitty! And met many more TA's....
The neon alien, summer21, tha broad, Irish Graham..your great and many others but I cant remember everyones names, sorry.. :(
Funniest thing of the night:
Danielle: Did you remind them to use protection? (dont ask)
RJ: Nope even better i told them to DOUBLE BAG it, 1 paper bag for her head and 1 for his head so if either ones falls off you still wont be able to see each other's faces....WTF? your crazy RJ (PAM, its your new nickname)
Alright, time to go to bed...see you all at the 8th Year :happy2: :happy2:

I always read threads about how ty Guv was, but I never believed it till last night!!!!! Guv is DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So many cracked-out, sweaty freaks!! There was NO room to walk, and if I tried to walk, I smelled BO around every corner, and got other peoples sweat all over me! :nervous:
I gave up on trying to stand on the main floor. The only place that was safe to chill was on that stage where all the TA's were standing, but the sound was so ty there. About 20 minutes into Mauro's set, I couldn't take it anymore, so we left!! YES, I missed Mauro's set. He was being wierd last night.... not his usual crazy self. But he's going to be in LA in a couple weeks, so I didn't really care. I'm gonna give him a chance to redeem himself, despite the negative reviews.
Chris Liebing ing ROCKED!!!! Just what the doctor ordered!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :eyes: Gataneo was pretty cool too. :D
Nice meeting everyone and partying with all the people I knew from before, you all know who you are (too many to list, but u guys are the BEST, the only NORMAL people @ Guv last night ;)!!!!! Sarah, nice meeting u (again) too! lol |

Well from the sound of the reviews we left at the right time.
I had a lot of fun last night, especially at the start of the night when side four and Chris came on. Lots of room to dance and I was surrounded by TA's which kicked ass cause your all such a great group of people.
Side four I really liked, a little bit of a different sound twist on techno, they played some bangers though. I actually bumped into side four on the dance floor and had a chat I told him to come back to toronto soon and throw down a longer, proper set, preferably at boa( I think that style of techno would sound killer on that system)
On to Chris.........:eyes: need i say more?
Gaetano was good from what I could hear. We were up on that stage and the sound kind of sucks up there so I couldnt really enjoy to the full potential. I wish the guv would compensate the far corners even with some smaller speakers that play mids and highs, cause when you stand up there its hard to hear them.
By the time mauro came on I dragged julia out to the main dance floor so I could hear the sound better. Then when he came on we both looked at eachother in shock..... this was P I C O T T O ????
I think not. Just from the little bit I heard I was dissapointed, me being one of the BIGGEST picotto fans out there I was let down, among other picotto lovers as well i am sure. I dont see how the DJ who has blown me away countless times could open with a set that late that was so "blah", like i mean come on .... GET THE PLACE JUMPIN, I guess he left that to chris. To close the night we couldnt really take the crowd any more, the only place that was cool was where the TA's were at obviously. Anywhere else I tried to go i wound up getting rubbed up against by sweaty sketch bags. So we left around 4 am, I still had a blast.... only let down was the start of mauros set and the crowd.
Had a blast TA's, will see you all again soon no doubt.
John thanks for linking the tickets, I owe ya. |

oh my goodness...
everything happens for a reason! myself, greg, my sister, and her boyfriend were going to go to this - i had been looking forward to this event for a VERY long time.
turned out dc on 9/18 and nyc 9/21 (all for pvd ;))were just a little too much for greg, and he decided he wasn't up for another 10 hour round trip this weekend - even if it was for chris liebing.
at 8pm last night he decides he wants to go - this would put us in toronto around 1am, but we jointly decide to can it because we were getting on the road so late.
it was a blessing in disguise. if we had driven all that way for a 1.5 hour set by chris, we would have been really bummed. would we have even heard his entire set? :(
soo sorry to hear what happened everyone! maybe chris liebing will be back in toronto soon! *fingers crossed* |
