File Sharing

This may not be the right forum, and this had probably been debated in the past, but I have a bone to pick with the file sharing policy of this website. If the majority of these mixes are broadcasted over the radio, why shouldn't we distribute them freely? How else am I supposed to get mixes that aren't sold anywhere? And did you ever see the South Park episode about file sharing? They say that music should be freely downloaded because it is art and the artists should be stoked that so many people are listening to it, not worrying so much about making money off it. And all of our favorite trance artists are supported by our concert going anyway. I feel that the trance artists would endorse file sharing, as its the best way to proliferate their musical messages that we so dearly love. I read that message that says I have no concern for the artists that we listen to. This is false. If I didn't love them, why would I try to find so much of their art? I hope I don't alienate myself with this post, but I think that we should be able to listen to the trance artists art freely. Do you think that a god such as Dumonde or Paul van Dyk really would care that we are not paying for their music? I think that they would just be happy to know that it is affecting us. And it's not like they are hurting for the few dollars that their record sales bring in. Anyway those are just my feelings, I hope you don't hate me for them.

Yes, trust this mans opinion. He takes South Park seriously and uses its plots in his arguments. Quite an intelligent fellow.

Because if someone is busting their ass trying to make a LIVING off their work, I want to compensate them for their efforts as gratitude...

Thats like telling people at a restaurant that they should just be stoked that so many people like their food, not about making money.

I am new to the forum compared to other people. And I don't know much about this issue. Even if I knew enough to discuss it, I'd be smart enough to figure out that this has been discussed over and over, not just here, but in many forums. File sharing is illegal. If you want something, you look for it till you find it. Mixes are big files. You can't expect files that big to stay online for that long.

Working in a restaurant and being a trance superstar are totally different things. All of the artists we listen to are financially well off enough that they don't really need the revenue from records we buy. And besides, all of the real money comes from the live sets we attend.

Often it is not a matter of what is right or wrong in our personal opinion, or what is morally right or wrong, sometimes its a matter of legal and illegal, and although the chances of getting in trouble when you on your own download music or swap music is pretty low, for a public forum to participate and encourage such behaviour it becomes a fantastic target for law enforcement agencies to do what they do best, that is make an example of someone.

So for the sake of you finding a song you want or downloading a live set that you could probably find quite easy on the net if you researched even just a little you would rather run the risk of shutting down enjoyment of edm for 1,000s of people all around the world? Thats just dumb.

So whether you are for or against file sharing you must understand traceaddict's stand on the matter.
