| If you only like 'trance' then get Out There And Back. Not that it is a 100% trance album, but it would be more suited to someone with a narrower view on music. If you want something a bit different and experimental and made on really ty equipment then get 45RPM. I think its his best album but most people will just write it off as because it sounds so old now. Its a couple of years before IMA and sounds a lot older. |

It sounds older than Ima? WTF is it, PvD hitting stones with sticks and playing a flute?
No, seriously... I like experimentation, just not too much of it. Maybe Global would be a good choice. |

Bt was light years ahead of PvD in the technical sense back then. All Paul's stuff was worked through engineers as he was still a kid who was learning how to work his gear. Plus his label was a really small one so im guessing his gear wasnt up to much anyway. However the tracks on 45RPM were really respected at the time - it made his name with people like Sasha, much like IMA did for Bt. |

Out There and Back was an experiment with sound too. Just because it doesnt sound like noise doesnt mean its not experimental:stongue:
At least you could put in your sentence I dont like trance.:stongue: instead of using clever remarks to diss the genre. Atleast I was upfront and said I dont like hard annoying repetitive beats yet gave an example of hard pvd I like.
IMO this CD is the one that alot of PVD fans I know love and think of when they hear the name PVD. |

| Yes OTAB is a really good album and its far from being a totally trance album... but when you set all his albums together, which is the purpose of this thread, OTAB is a lot narrower than what he had done before. The sounds are obviously a lot cleaner and crisper but I dont think the artistic element is as strong in it as what has gone before. |

| Well, seems that the choice is between OTAB, 45RPM and Global... it also seems I'll have to make up my own mind. Damn. :toothless |

Seven Ways is a good go between in the sense that its really varied but the prodction is so much better. Id say Seven Ways and IMA are on a par in terms of how the music sounds. Theres something about Seven Ways that I cant put my finger on that makes me not like it as much as i probably should. Its missing something but I dont know what.
Global has a lot of old tracks on it but they are all re produced to modern standards. |

The main reason why I really like PVD...
Out there and Back and Global
However, I than started to listen to attend his live performances and I was suprised to discover he plays some really kiddie hardcore german techno amist some of his excellent trance tunes.
So beware. Dont fall into the trap I did in beleiving that the production PVD is the same as the DJ PVD.
I understand the concept of adding hard trance to a trancy set to add spice ( i.e. tiesto ) but PVD doesnt add hard trance he builds around it seems imo.
My point is :D I like the production PVD ( I love all his work ) but hate when he plays his hard "bangin stuff" ( except for a few which I like , for example Murder Was the Bass etc.)
Just wanted to warn you if you didnt know already. Cuz no one told me; I had to find out the hard way :(
P.S.
Before you hard-core PVD start attacking please understand that I still love PVD just like you. I just have a differnt love for him than you. And please dont attack me cuz I said i dont like hard core german techno :D I was trying to be as kind as possible yet describe how I feel about it. Its just one of those sounds I can never really get into. |

| I bought only one album.. Reflections (2CD special edition).. at first I didn't like it but now I enjoy every track on it.. older cd's by PvD are ok, but seem to be out of date, nothing for trance newbies, hard to get in IMO.. |

I dont think you understand what I wrote.
I like the trance PVD makes. This is how I discovered PVD. I am suprised that as a fan of PVD fans you have such a hate for trance since IMO alot of PVD's work is trance. Nothing But You = Trance ..Thats Life = Trance ...etc I never heard him produce on his cds or vinyls anything close to what I hear in some of his sets. This is what is truely suprising since I would expect a DJ to spin something near to what he likes or produces. Its almost deceiving!! IMO its like a total reversal of what I hear from him in his production. Im not sure if other PVD fans feel the same way.
Im not sure if were are the same PVD fan. I can not see how someone can love his production work yet than hate trance and also find his hard techno stuff musical or even intersting. Perfect example would be when he played junk project in his casion set!!
Or another example would be....I realy enjoyed his opening set broadcasted on fritz. It was trancy. Remeber the small set w/ summer dreams. I can not understand how one could enjoy that but than enjoy the tunes he closed his set on fritz with.
Explain to me this PVD fans |
