I think they should.

as long as they work and fix all their democratic and equality (between men and women etc) issues.

Why?
.montecarlo.
Turkey should be allowed to negotiate EU accession if they can realistically meet the economic, political, and social stability requirements of EU membership (assuming there is popular support for their accession in both the EU and Turkey). Although it is possible they'll make the cut in the future, I don't think it will happen any time soon.

Here's a good read: http://europa.eu.int/comm/enlargeme...endation_en.pdf

Honestly, your comments are getting more and more absurd.

Care to explain how letting in one relatively secular country with a majority Islamic population would allow Muslims to 'rule' Europe? Come to think of it, your comments are somewhat representative of the typical arguments advanced by people on the lunatic right. If racism and/or religious vilification and discrimination is the best reason people can come up with to exclude Turkey from the EU -- then all the more reason to let them in.

How exactly would you define European? If it's a country whose territorry extends over Europe, then they satisfy the criteria. If it's a country that's historically been involved in European affairs, again they meet the requirement. If their ethnicity needs to be similar to current Europeans, then let us not forget that Turkish areas were once populated by Greeks and Romans. European countries vary much in their culture and local customs that perhaps the only common denominator for every single EU member is their christian past. Turkey has had a great influence on Europe in the past, especially since they controlled practically all of Balkan peninsula. There are so many references to Turkish language and customs that you can find in previously occupied areas, especially in Bosnia, that it's reasonable to say they are in accordance with a large amount of (future) EU population. Europe, and especially southern one, would be much different without Turkish influence, and Turkey itself has adopted many European customs and traditions. But most importantly, Turkish citizens want to become a part of the EU, and they are willing to change their customs and laws even more in order to join in. They have satisfied the majority of important criteria, and frankly I can't see how they differ much from any other southern EU country. Sure, they have their own local uniquenesses, but generally they are as European as every other European country.
