just wondering out of the voters, how many are actually European in residence, as in how many who voted yes/no actually come under the EU's jurisdiction. |
Well, I am of European residence and I'm probably gonna be under EU jurisdiction in about 5 years.

Aah, so nice to know that even in the UK people are concerned with my little part of the world... |

Yeah i know we dont have a common refugee policy yet, but we dont have any turkish membership yet either =) |
THe point is, EU citizens can freely travel into other EU countries without restriction. If Turkey joined the EU, there would be a flood of millions of Turks moving to western Europe to get higher wages than in Turkey.
A few thousand is diversity. A few million is an invasion. Certain cities in France, the UK, and Germany are already holes.
Also, don't ever forget that 9/11 was planned in Germany (and Spain) by Muslim immigrants.

Nah they didn't! You've forgotten the Serbian glorious victory when they have beaten them to the ground in Kosovo battle :) |
The Muslims sure got their revenge. Now, through a combination of NATO's meddling, Al-qaeda, and out-breeding, Kosovo is de facto no longer part of Serbia. :whip: :whip: |

I'd much rather see Turkey become a rich country; that way they would stay put where they are.
Anyway, if I'm selfish, you're a self-hater. |

do you really think it will only take 5 years? don't get me wrong - i LOVE my homeland and want the economy and its people to prosper. though, after living in the US for 13 years, and then spending 3 summers in a row in Croatia, i am very much bothered by the inefficiencies of both the government and the private sector. the regulations governing free enterprise as well as entrepreneurship are ridiculous and hamper both the economy, and current and potential businesses.
the infrastructure is also not up to par. roads and highways are poorly constructed, and finish months if not years after the estimated completion date.
the educational system (k-12) is good, though all my friends attending colleges and universities had much more negative to say in comparison to the positives.
weak industrial base in comparison to newly accepted eastern countries. only thing i see Croatia is doing good in is tourism. Nobody wants to pay more agricultural subsidies either...
Croatia has a looong way to go to becoming up to par to join the EU. And it starts at home with the people and their attitudes and willingness to change.
phew! too much typing for someone who's used to 1 liners.

The disparity between those countries isn't as large as with Turkey; see below.
Anyway the women can come anytime they want.

No they're not. Look at GDP per capita.

I vacationed in Croatia during the Balkan war ... I don't really remember much of the drive except for the ocasional tank or fighter jet, but I do remember getting to our destination in one peice on their roads :p.
As for Poland ... don't ever eat at their burger king unless you want food poisoning :whip: |
