where in my post did it say i go for trainwrecks? IMO its not about chasing perfection. If Tiesto s it up a few times mid-set... i'd prefer to see him for three hours over armin.
Why?
Cos of the energy and charisma Tiesto embues. THAT is also a part of Djing... ANYONE can beatmatch given the natural talent or the endless hours of practice.
No-one can take away style.
For that Armin is a weak second to everybody. Taking parts of everyone else's act and merging them is just a way of saying u ain't got ur own style.
One thing i'd admire from PvD (despite hating the sets) is that he's moved completely away from wishywashy armin fills his sets with. Tiesto plays similar tracks... and i'll always be a tiesto fan. Even if he quit tomorrow i wont suddenly jump on the Armin bandwagon like all u mofo's - whats the point. I get to see everything he does already at Tiesto shows.
So mixing seamlessly perfect sets for a whole 2 hour radio show every week is now the focus of becoming a good dj? Well - people need to see the big picture. Armin can come onto the stage intent on mixing 10 progressive records into one another for the crowds ultimate build up - and i'd give him a clap... just wake me up first. |

its intresting to see diff views coming on diff djs. thats natural i guess. but what i wanted to say was when ur like comparing the top 10-15 djs, its never on their skills that ur comparing about. all these guys know how to beatmatch with perfection, seamlessly execute the pitch control/tempo, play with fx, produce their own music, remix tracks...etc, the list goes on. what makes one dj more popular is the public appeal he has.shows that are distributed over a wider geographic area, more is the dj awareness and hence the appeal. all of them work on the same fourmula. sometimes dj X hits the news and sometimes it maybe dj Y.
All of them have played music for a long time and know the tricks of the trade. sometimes more than u or me. Sometimes too long that they may even want to change their styles and experiment in new areas. and i think thats okay!
so to say that this dj sucked cause he played this music in this kind of way, or cause i was expecting this and he played in the other way, is really immature. try putting ur selves in their shoes and you begin to see a diff perspective. |

Perhaps performances you've seen vastly differ from the ones we've been privy to in Chicago, but Armin consistenly outperforms Tiesto, whether it be crowd interaction, mixing, track selection, etc...
And how can you accuse people of 'jump[ing] on the Armin bandwagon?' Some people's musical opinions / tastes progress over time, and some people hold on to the past.

| I don't think any of these DJs even stand up to the greatest DJ of all: Goa Gil. This man provides the most spiritual music out there and has the past to prove it. Hes a guru in some Indian Guru council (I forget the name.) He also has amazing mixing skills, never trainwrecking anything and having a big picture in his how how to work his set which i think these DJs dont have as well. Go to one of his 2 day long sets and lose yourself in it, and youll be a changed person. |
