I was speaking from experience. I've known a lot of people who were only going to do X, no other drugs ever. Then you start meeting other drug users, you end up at an afterparty, and everyone there is doing coke or glass or whatever.
Next thing you know you are doing you never though you were going to do.
Sure, some people can do X and nothing else, but most cannot. |

Perhaps you should review the post history of the people you're quoting before you judge them so blithely. If Arbiter is an "idiot" then I'd hate to see how you'd judge the rest of us...
To the original poster, even though you seem to have made your mind up already, if you ever decide to try ecstacy just make sure you do the following two things:
1) Make sure you understand the risks. I'm not just talking about asking for advice on bulletin boards, I mean reading up about the properties of the drug on reputable websites like erowid. Understand what E does to the brain, what the potential risks are and how best to go about minimising them. The chances of having a life-threatening experience on the drug are lower than being involved in a car crash, but you still need to understand that MDMA does alter the chemistry in your brain, that it can put you in danger in the short term and that it will cause you long-term damage if you abuse it. If you aren't educated on the properties of the drug then you have no place using it.
2) Make sure you can trust the person you are purchasing it from. Ideally they should have pill-testing kits to ascertain, with some degree of certainty, the content of the pills. Again, while the chances of you buying a pill with a "dangerous" substances in it are quite slim, it's a chance you should never feel comfortable taking. Besides, you'd never want to pay $US 20 for an aspirin, right?
Ultimately, so long as you can fulfill these two criteria, only you can tell whether you're ready or not to start taking ecstacy. As of next month I will have been taking it for three years and I have never had an adverse experience with the drug, nor have I ever met anyone who has had an adverse experience with it. This is not to say that you shouldn't treat it with the respect it deserves (I, for instance, never take more than a half at a time) but I do believe that the knee-jerk opinions of those unfamiliar with the drug count for nothing unless they're backed up with scientific fact.
So:
- The chances of you dying from E are incredibly remote.
- Dehydration / over-hydration are only issues where the drug has been abused, or where its properties have not been properly understood.
- MDMA is not physically addictive.
- You will, in all likelihood, regardless of what anyone says, enjoy the experience of taking E.
But:
- Ecstacy can endanger your health in the short term if you don't know how to eliminate the risks.
- Ecstacy will endanger your health in the long-term if you don't understand it's neurochemical properties and end up overdoing it as a result.
You need to make your own mind up, but make sure that you're properly informed before doing so. Otherwise, the opportunity cost of making a wrong decision (in either direction) is quite high. |

of course, but they only have so much experience with it.
Asking online is NOT a replacement for RL advice, but it can be f*cking useful to get un biased advice from "strangers".
*and I mean, Jesus Chryst, you can't listen to anything the government have to say on it.

it depends who the offers you the drug in the first place. i wouldn't accept a new substance from someone i didn't know. Obviously he isn't either, otherwise he would have necked it first, then posted on the internet later.
