REVIEW: James Holden et al at System Soundbar (pg. 6)

My two cents...

Although I love Holden and his productions are just so intelligent, I found that the set as a whole was just not what I was into that night. Yes, i was dancin' and all, but I really wasn't feeling most of it. Although I was loving A Break In The Clouds -- such a brilliant track (i close my Perception mix with it).

Matt -- Friggin' GREAT Job in the front room man! I think you definitely stole the show there. (You need to be put in the main room!)

It was great meeting some new faces (I am trying to remember names but I never retain them), seeing all the regulars as well.

Oh yeah... I hate System's soundsystem... It think it really didn't do justice to Holden's set. All the electro-techie Nathan Fake'ish 'n' Holden tracks definitely need a well-balanced system to be fully appreciated.

Until next time...

ok, holden was pretty good but not spectacularly good as he can be if he wants to. to say he was boring is just crazy though since holden has to be some of the best prog has to offer. no?
DJ El Kay Dee
well apparently, we are told now his stuff aint prog......:eyespop:

:conf:

bah haters everywhere. just a few months ago holden held legendary status.

btw what was matt spinning (genre) in the other room? i mean no offence, but i can't change rooms to see a local when holden comes about once a year to toronto. it ain't right :D

btw i agree with system sound not being good enough, i look forward to holden returning to boa or even kh.

prog can be GOOD, prog is mostly GOOD, but holden wasnt good.

if he played that he was spinning last half hour all night that would be an awesome night, but he tried to be "unique" or whatever and he SUCKED

Well actually, the last half hour was the most boring ... you also mentioned you didn't start enjoying it until 5 AM.... which is approximately when Holden came off????

Do you even know what you're talking about?

The first half hour was incredible... also got really good in the middle.

I definately feel you there. Most of his new remixes blow quite honestly. There's very little melody, the sounds are dark (which is ok if the tracks carried nuff mood in them). Then again, the guys got an amazing record of churning out great tracks, so maybe he's just experimenting phase right now...

Remember his remix of "loki-nyc underground" -- that was pretty progressive and out there in terms of sounds when it was first released.

Definately not a guy who's going to be confined by other peoples boundries of what constitutes dance music. Which is a good thing -- although i personally hopes, Holden is able to find his way towards the light sooner rather then later.
