A little late on the review, but nonetheless, I had a good time. I was glad to bring Nicola out for the first time in a loooooooooooooooong time...I think PVD at the Kool Haus last October was the last time she'd been out partying with me. Glad many got to meet her and make it a good time for her too. We all know the ta community aspect contributes hugely to the good time when out clubbing.
Despite some of the negative reviews I've just glanced over, especially regarding the music, I thought it was pretty good. I really can't complain about anything. Sure, the sound wasn't perfect, his set wasn't "mind blowing" and whatnot, but I had a great time all in all. In fact, for someone who isn't as passionate and obsessive over this stuff as we all are, Nicola really enjoyed the tunes Holden was spinning because it combined the melodic and ambient elements of trance with the proggy beats.
This guy is really in a class of his own. Kinda like stoner house or something. The beats are never that hard and the melody is never that "in your face." I did like the stuff he was playing later on. I left at about 0430, so I'm not sure if he continued with that stuff..or if he was almost finished.
Speaking of stoner music, I forgot about a couple joints I had in my pocket, dunno why I had them really...but they got confiscated at the door. I still crack up when RJ told me I should roll up my poo next time. Cuz we all know they go and smoke them anyway...Can you imagine "Dude...this is some good .." as they pass around poo rolled up in paper....Bwahahahahaha:haha: |

not 5 SHARP, around 5, maybe 20 min before or even after, i think it was his last 2-3 songs + encore.
we cannot argue about tastessess ;)
and i didnt enjoy it, it was just better than the rest of his set.

RIGHT ON THE MONEY, it doesnt make u dance, it makes you nod your head and think and <--- THAT, somebody goes to a party to admire dj's mixing skills or his tracklist or whateverthe, i go to a party to party wich includes: enjoying music, having fun, drinking, meeting new people, seeing old friends, trying to pick up girls and some other things.
holdens set wasnt party set, music wasnt danceable, he didnt create right atmosphere.
im not bitching, really, im just saying that i have never had less fun than friday night, ever.
im getting pick-y and :D |

Nice reviews, I still get flash backs from that December gig he played ages ago, what a set! I've always liked Holden more than Zabiela, but what do I know.
Matt, what are you playing these days?  |

I thought the front room was def better party tunage than Holden......Holden I gotta say is brilliant (esp as a producer)...but hes spins great driving music or chillin at home music...not rip it on the dance floor music.
RJ I believe we had this conversation. |

What a night! John, Emery, thanks so much for the opportunity to play such a wonderfully long timeslot -- that was incredibly fun. To the TA massive -- I consider myself incredibly lucky to both have the support of such a tight community, and the priviledge of your friendship when I'm not playing. Thank you! I'm very happy that I was able to entertain all of you so well on Friday night! Next time out (early January or so, I'd expect), Eric and I will be playing together for a full Vagrant offering, and I can't wait.
To those of you asking about, or commenting on tunes that I played, I must admit that I don't know anything about most of the stuff I play beyond, perhaps, how the sleeve looks, lol! This is probably why I'm not recognizing the stuff you're asking about. Sorry!
Jon: Of late I've been most inclined to play a bangin' variety of electro-influenced material that intersects with both progressive and techno. On this night, I found that a lot of melodically-inclined progressive, as well as some of the aforementioned electro-influenced material was what people were most interested in hearing.
Re: Holden, well, I think the guy's brilliant, and I love the tweaky, darkish, electro-influenced, super-processed, minor-key-synth stuff that he's producing and playing these days -- it's so fresh. However, I can understand where some of you are coming from too: a lot of it is not what I'd consider club-oriented, despite it's genius. |
