So I just got back from court this morning. Here is what I took with me.
-A Notarized statement from my employer, detailing that I was vital to work and that shes willing to make any arrangements with the court to allow me to complete my counseling
-A Schedule of the counseling times, showing when the meeting I was supposed to go to was
-A Notarized statement from the counceling center saying that I was unable to reschedule counseling due to the guy I needed to talk to being on paternity leave (until Nov. 8)
-Pay stubs detailing my hours throughout the time in question
-A copy of Ohio State's policies regarding free counseling and what is only avaliable for full time students
-A copy of my current school schedule
The judge looked over my file, read the charges and told me that I was facing some serious consequences. She asked if I voluntarily ended my counseling and I said Yes. She then asked if I had anything to show the court or anyone to call as a witness on my behalf. I presented the papers I had and described my efforts to her. She took a 5 minute recess to look things over before making her decision. This was such a long 5 minutes for me. As I've said, I would go to jail due to the fact that the screwups were my own, but I had no desire to serve all or part of the 59 days. When she returned, she told me i shouldn't be so nervous and she told me she had decided to extend my probation as a result of my incompletion of the court-ordered requirement. I am now on probation for an extra 6 months (until January 1st, 2006). I was then sent to the probation office to provide them with a copy of everything I showed to the court, tell them my plans for finishing my counseling, and schedule an appointment for early January. I will not have to go to this appointment if I finish my 7 (it is 7, not 6. My counsler did not count my assessment as a meeting) sessions before that date and the counsler notifies the court.
So, I'm ok for now. No jail time, though the judge made it clear that if Im ever called in front of her again, she will be quite harsh. I'm very relieved and quite eager to finish my counseling so I never have to deal with her or the Franklin County Municipal Court ever again.
Thanks to everyone who offered their support, their well wishes, and positive emotions for this situation. Im glad that I have several support groups, the least of which is not TA, to help me calm myself and prepare for situations like this. |

Alright, you're off the hook (kind of...)
At least you're not going to jail. We should keep a stickied Reminder Thread at the top of COR to remind you to go to your meeting sessions. |
