Notebook users and Volume

Anyone using a notebook as a primary computer and experience low volume? The output from this built-in sound card is awful, but I can't seem to find anything that allows you to increase the system volume. You'd think it would be simple, but apparently not. No, it's not something simple, everything is turned up, I've looked at every setting, I've installed the latest drivers, it doesn't seem right that my stereo has to be CRANKED in order to get a decent volume out of my notebook.

check all your programs that have volume control......sometimes one program can run in the backround and hold the volume down.....

it sounds like just some really ty integrated sound you have thou.

My notebook is my main pc.....the volume is obviously going to be somewhat lower as the speakers are not as big as a desktop pc.....I don't know....I have good sound quality and I never seem to have trouble hearing anything

Yes, but I don't want to buy anything. :) I suppose a USB one wouldn't be bad, park it here on my desk and just hook it up when I'm home. Seems so stupid just to get some volume.

I picked up a Starlogic 5.1 External USB Soundcard for $19 on eBay.

Ok, well that much money I could part ways with. How do you like it?

I have no problem with volume while using headphones or dumping the signal into my stereo.

Works fine with recording/broadcasting live-to-air stuff as well.

Considering I fried the internal one while poking around inside my notebook w/ a screwdriver - it was necessary to buy. It performs better than the internal unit. Only complaint is that it tends to draw more wattage than the internal unit (it is self powered via the USB) which does effect batterly life.
