True. I never liked the commercial crap either, but the fact is that more and more dj's are going for the money, instead of going for the music.

My point was to say that dance music on its own is losing its original underground status, and is slowly creeping up to the 'big world'.

Ofcourse there are still a lot of underground dj's, but more and more dj's are trying to take a piece of the commercialisation (is that a word???) of dance music, to pull up their status.

Tiesto and Paul van Dyk have both released several commercial singles, but I wouldn't say Paul van Dyk is a popstar, while Tiesto seems to be slowly transforming into one.

Paul van Dyk is the second most popular dj in the world, but has never needed a 'PvD in concert' or whatever.

yeh and your missing my point, the list is getting more and more pointless to dance music, liek the mtv dance awards or some other stupid cheesy award like that. the fact that tiesto is staying number one means he is turning more and more into a product.

I wasn't missing your point, I was just saying that Tiesto is still the most popular dj in the world, according to the people who voted for him. Remember that most people like to see an artist as a 'product'. It is hard to sell a dj in person, but if you make a product out of it, it is a lot easier to kick it out on the market. Selling a product is easier than selling a person. Tiesto is more or less being sold to the public, and that is why he is so popular.

If the majority of people think that Tiesto represents good dance music, so be it.

The lists represents the opionion of the masses, not of the people who truly are into EDM and know everything (or at least a lot) about it.

If you look further down the list, you will find loads of dj's that are ten times better than Tiesto, but are simply not as popular with the main crowd, because they play a different kind of music and don't have their own concerts and whatever. They are not a 'product', like Tiesto is.

i did not like 'Just Be'. 'Nyana' was saved by cd2. without that cd, the whole package could have been mediocre. 'In My Memory' was a great cd, because of 'suburban train', 'lethal industy', 'obsession', and 'in my memory'.

now if he combined his old majik stuff with his 'in my memory' creativity, maybe something might be there.

Tiesto is still my fav dj and one of my fav producers, but I would like to hear him go back to the style he had in 99-01. It will never happen because producers aren't making that style of music anymore.

dance music as a whole isnt, its just a segment of the scene (namely the tiestos and armins) are getting more and more commercial to keep earning the big bucks which was possible a good few years ago when you didnt have to sell out to make good money from trance

i know, why are they doing this? all they want is the money and image and superstar status (which is hardly present anymore). why dont they just spin ro make tunes for the joy of it, because thats really what its about. these peopel who just want all the fame and money are nothign but leeches to the scene and the pockets of the many who buy into their "product". at the end of the day it shoudlnt be about image or mone yreally, i know plenty of good dj's who wantneither but to spin good tuens and to have a good party.

probably because for an angel has been played in every ritzy possible, pvd has always been loved by the trance masses and has ever needed to go "over commercial" mainyl because of this. however when tiesto became "number1 dj" pvd was like, "hang on a second" and started doing crap liek hsi reflections album. i wouldnt say pvd hasnt done an "in concert" type thing, maybe not on such a scale but comparable are his solo casino nights. and even casino nights he plays 75% of the time anyway doesnt he?

yeh but see my point is that it SHOULDNT be about making a "product" out of yourself, it should just be about djing and not selling out to be a big star and rake in the cash.

i know this, but you will also find a load of poxy djs with commercial viability such as "judge jules" and "atb". also a lot of DJs who havnt done anythign for years and arnt any good anymore. the latter, which brings me back t othe oriignal point of my post. you can be and a sellout, and you will eaisly get in the top100 - even if you were once good and not are , you can still eb rated highly i nthe top100. this is why it is the most pointless thign in the world, and as i said before, about as good to the scene as the MTV dance awards.

this day and age you cant think of something being commercial as the extreme fo flip and fill, you can have commercial from within the trance scen itself, brought about by the current climate of the scen. this means the djs have had to make a choice, be a complete sellout and keep living the playboy lifestyle with a bitch in one arm and a coke cover £10 note in the other, or stay true to the music and spirit with your feet on the ground and decent records in your box.

In Search of Sunrise 3 Tiesto was the best. Now he has left the building.
GtR
is back....
Radagast
Uh oh, he played some hit anthem trance tracks from 1999-2002 that anyone here could have come up with in less than 60 seconds, and mixede them as crappily as ever. You don't get the same feeling when you listen to those tracks in other places? So it's become about the DJ now rather than the music? Of course it has.
Gordy
yes new tiesto sucks donkey penis IMO

jesus why so much conversation, Tiesto back in the day was a dream maker, lots of people fell in love with the guy, truth of the matter is he's changed, his eyes are glazed over with cash and all we can do is hold on to the past in nostalgia.
