I Want The Old Tiesto Back (pg. 3)

| If a few producers began to produce the "old-style" trance stuff once again, then maybe some dj's like Tiesto would pick up on those, after seeing the success songs like Gouryella, Carte Blanche, Voyage, etc. had at TiC II on day two on the last hour. Then from there maybe it would go to other dj's, but it sounds like I'm dreaming. :p But it's possible if some producers do it, the songs they produce are good, and some popular DJ's support them. |

Your insulting comment about the productions notwithstanding, I agree. That last hour had very little to do with Tiesto; he didn't select the tracks, they were voted on. People swooning over the DJ who mixed them together is really a good litmus test as to who isn't seeing through the fame and image. |

I don't really understand this selling-out thing at all. Its mentioned a lot of times, but I have never understood.
To me selling out means that Tiesto's records are popular and hence sold out. Is it just because he selects and produces tracks that more people enjoy? That seems to be the most logical explanation, because if it wasn't true then he would not be 'sold-out'.
Whats the prob with that?
So if I have a correct understanding of 'selling-out' then are TAs upset because he no longer spins music they like, or because the music they like is no longer underground?
It seems like most people are upset not over the fact that he spins music they don't really like, but because his fame has won him the spot of Olympic DJ, leading to the release of the tracks he played there, because his music has become so popular that he is in a sense 'pop'.
Dogging on the top DJ list is kind of odd, since it does what it is supposed to do - display a list of most popular DJs based on vote. Popularity is directly related to the amount of people that like a DJ. Simply because the crowd that voted for Tiesto has a different taste from you does not invalidate the list.
I don't understand the two opposing views here. One is that people wish their fave DJ to be #1, that is why they vote for him and that is why comments like "...where is Tangelia, where is j00f, arise". And another is that people get upset that their fave DJ is becoming popular? Or is that not the case and they only get upset because he is not their favourite anymore.
Or is the problem due to the fact that DJs that, to you, do not represent the gems of EDM get the top titles, while the elite DJs get scored down? I don't see why that is bad, here you have your underground back! :D
Why do these polls matter? Just listen to what you want - you'll always have that. And it may be regretabble that your fave DJ is not longer your fave, but there is always something else. "And this shall also pass" :toothless |

I don't remember who said it on here, but he said it well, it was something like "selling out is the formulaic production of tunes" that will appeal to the masses that are not knowledgeable about electornica, so really he's not selling out because he's popular he is popular because he's selling out, he could produce talented, creative, simply good tracks, amazing tracks that the old fans loved him for, but instead he chooses to purposely produce simpler tracks that will appeal to more people, the people that have no ing clue about electronica, the people that say "oooh, I love techno, DJ Sammy yay" because there is more of those people out there than there is knowledgeable electronica fans, so therefore he asks himself "how should I put together this track so that I get the most response to it from those people that are far from being electronica fans because it takes something simple to attract them thus make them buy the albums. On the other hand he could produce the amazing tunes that hold his touch and not give a about who likes it because the real fans will like it, we're not saying he should imitate his old work, that's ridiculous, we want him to produce with the same quality as he used to, same goes for spinning. |

A quick lesson in real life for those living in a cave:
1. Popular music changes over time
2. The music DJs play changes over time
3. Things progress
4. All musical artists continue to innovate, some you like the changes, some you don't.
5. Its not 1998 anymore. |

I just hope someone says something along the lines of "I used to like such-and-such before they became popular, now they are all commercial and have sold out" because this displays extreme unintelligence, at about the level of a small dog to be exact. ANd I really feel like questioning someone's intellect. |

Good point.
So you think it's all about the money? No other agenda? Tiesto might say he's trying to spread EDM to the masses who are unaware of this great form of music, or something like that. Oh well.
But as far as Tiesto himself goes, I don't see the problem really, as far as production goes. His Olympic releases were flops, to me at least. But I only listened to them once. But I thought tracks like "A Tear in the Open", "Forever Today", "Walking on Clouds", "Adagio" were pretty good. |

ok so Tiesto may not be what he was a few years back but u still have to give him credit for his contribution to dance music even to this day. He may hold a pop-star status but I think hes still in it mostly for the music not the cash. if u see him live the energy he gives off is crazy. PVD on the other hand when he DJs looks like an arrogant twat whos overplays all his tracks and thinks about his paycheck at the end of the night, though the guy does have some skill which is what got him where he is now (again not compared to what he was doing a few years back).
anyway all this Tiesto bashing is pissing me off. hes by far not my favourite DJ but I think he has been the most consistent over the years and all this critism is either out of jealousy or coming from the mouths of elitists. And his produtions have always been decent (even Just Be had some good tracks.) |
