I think you are missing the point. If people are going to use healthcare as a means of controlling behaviour the possibilities are endless in what they can legislate. |
and I agree - although where do you draw the line - do you let people have free reign.
sorry got so sidetracked on this one...lol |

Would you let an ADULT get away with murder because they are an ADULT? just curious...not trying to be heated or anything...You are right that ADULTS should be able to understand the consequences. However, that is just not the case with many ADULTS i.e. look at all the alcohol ADULT related driving deaths. Just because your an ADULT does not make you smarter than a CHILD. |
Wearing your helmet and killling someone with a gun/car (drunk driving) are hardly comparible actions. |

Helmets dont prevent injuries though, and condoms don't prevent aids. Both lower the risk, but don't prevent. The government is in a reasonable position enforcing this to lower health care costs.
Seatbelts are law, why shouldn't helmets be? |
The question is where to do you draw the line? There are thousands of things they could enforce on us to lower heath care costs. If it's questionable, I think it should be in favour of our freedom to choose. |

Here's the difference. These actions harm other people. Smashing your head on the ground only harms yourself. |

Like I said, I think since a bicycle is a vehicle on the road it is reasonable to enforce helmet laws, just as seat belt laws are enforced. |

but this is not something you can prove. i mean you can't prove if someone was wearing or not wearing a condom. you can however, proove someone was or was not wearing a helmet. |
I can certainly prove you're smoking a cigarette. To hell with it, ban those too. |

You draw the line at decisions made about personal safety and choice that DO NOT harm others. Im all for legislation that prevents a persons actions from directly harming another person. But when it comes to legislation to save us from ourselves, thats when the line should be drawn. |

And i stated my case for being against seat belt laws too. The exact same reason i dont support helmets. |

I have no problem with motorized vehicles, but extending this too non-motorized bikes? Could make a similar comparison on the water, should children in rubber boats at the beach have a whistle, life vests and other reguired safety equipment of a regular (larger) power boat? |

I think we should pass legislation banning sharp corners, sharp edges and making all walls rubber. After all what if someone hurts themselves and we have to pay for their healthcare?
I say rubberized rooms and rounded corners should be mandatory since we are obviously all a bunch of child minded retards according to the govt!! |

Like i said dude, you better not be having sex without condoms because if you get Aids i dont want to pay for it. YOU should pay for it. You see how flawed this line of reasoning is?
Try again. |
ok I will:tongue2 ...I would love to live in a world where everyone was responsible for their own actions and would pay for their OWN stupid mistakes (i.e.: not wearing seat belts, not wearing bike helmet,etc..) but I know that THAT will never happen (at least in my lifetime) because we ALL pay into a universal healthcare that is out of control with high costs( I guess you don't mind paying higher taxes but I do) and ALOT of the costs can be reduced if people used their common sense when involved with a certain activity.Well many adults didn't get that option installed in their thick heads when they we're concieved and so the government has to pass laws to protect these people from themselves.
I know that you are concerned with TOO much government as am I but so far it hasn't IMO... |
