It seems to me like you don't yet know enough about what is stressing him out. You can either assume that the problem is temporary and will eventually go away or that is serious and he's not comfortable sharing it with you. The person that best knows this is him of course. But you should be more aware of what is going on. Just continue talking to him.
You say that he might be stressed about life in general. Maybe that is right. Assuming it is, then he should make some type of change. The environment is not healthy for him. And if it's not heathly for him, then it's not good for you and the relationship.
The cause of stress is his routine it seems. He needs some type of modification/change. But then again, maybe that stress will go away. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.
Overload of work causes stress. That might be it. A lot of anything is bad for you. So tell him to stay off the pills and make some modifications.
If the problem is something else more serious, good luck. Hopefully it won't be that serious though. In any case, the best of luck to you and your partner.

think positive, but when you dont feel right, dont try to hold it inside, it will only make it worse, let it all out, feel bad for some time, and then it will pass. You will more easely learn to evacuate the bad stuff this way...

did I say work out? ;) seriously if your body is healthy, your mind will follow
The rest is a matter of finding what really makes you feel this way and work on it, but the preceding advice can only help!

after battling permanent depression for 12 years and being on meds and ..
this man is ing right on. The only thing that I would add is working out and being active. Get some of those natural endorphins going. But drinking and hanging out and knowing people care about you helps. Long talks at night, someone listening to you.
Pills dont do . They treat symptoms not causes. |

anyway we had a great weekend and he seems to be feeling much better.
