If the parents have previously sent a signed letter to the school stating that the child goes home for lunch, then yes, they can go home. But a very large number of students stay at the schools.
They didn't ban it, they are taking precautions because the children become the governments responsibility once they enter the school building. They can't have kids just taking off. |
thats just retarded... we all grew up without this just fine.
What a wimpy society we are becoming. |

We had this at my school too (and that was over 10 years ago).
It's clearly a liability issue. The school is responsible for the well being of kids during the school day. They leave school property and get hit by a car, abducted, assaulted, etc....who do you think is liable?
the school. |

jayx1: why aren't you answering back?
Transfats are added to the products you eat by companies in order to keep them longer on the shelf and save on more expensives oils and fats.
Some companies have felt the heat and have already changed their production methods by removing transfats, without affecting the final retail price.
Why not force the rest to do something that is essentially benefitial to the health of all canadians? |

I would have thought that the person that comitted these crimes would be liable. Oh silly me... that would be taking responsibilty for yourself instead of blaming others. |

Here is my answer. Force these products to list transfats in the ingredients in a clear manner. Then let the consumer decide. We can decide with our dollars whether or not we want to eat trans fats.
Oh but i forgot that the government knows better. Not only that, but why take responsibilty for your health when you can just rely on big brother to do it right? |

no offence dude, but its not some public worker who decides that he should write this or that law to be approved later.
scientifics and consumer lobbies have something to say too.
Its not that orwellian, yet. |

you're right...a parent has no right whatsoever to expect that if they drop their kid off at school, that they're actually IN school.
"sorry Mrs. ____, we don't bother with attendance here and we don't keep track of the students whereabouts at all...that your kid's problem and yours".
um...no. |

Isnt that why they take attendance in the morning and afternoon? I know when i was in grade 2 i didnt show up once and after attendance was taken they called to see where i was. I was stuck in a snowdrift LOL.
The system worked just fine without needing permission slips to walk home for lunch. |

I agree that it SHOULD be that way...but then, as a school who potentially liable, I'd want a parent-signed waiver on file allowing the kid to leave.
I lived right across the street from my school and still had to get permission to go home for lunch (technically I even needed permission to take the school bus to my friend's house with them after school!).
It's all about liability...just imagine how much worse it is down south ;)
parents may KNOW it was their own kids fault if something happens to them, but you can bet that 9/10 will attempt to sue the school, if given the option.
It's our wonderful society of no one accepting responsibility for their own actions...and immediately putting the blame on someone else when they can. it's sad. |
