What made you choose edm over other genres of music?

| I enjoy listening to it. And despite being possible, it was becomming difficult to find any groups that were actually doing something interesting with guitar, bass, and drums. |

Curiosity, Fascination with computers and electronics, Dissatisfaction with popular music, all the stuff I read from rave websites, napster, chat rooms, people I encountered over the internet who I started looking up to and realizing later that those ppl enjoyed EDM, Qbasic beeping melody programs, Orchestra class in 6th grade, Tron, hyperreal.com(and one of it's old projects, technomusic.com), mp3.com, so much more...
When I look back on all the influences it makes me think that it was just meant to be. |

yeah T[]C kind of got me started . i pretty much really started getting into edm because it was the only thing i could dance and move to, really. |

I never really had a say in the matter.:(
Seriously though, I first became a fan of EDM because it sounded precise and clean, as opposed to r&b, rock, and others, which to me don't.
The first composition that I can remember was Herbi Hancok's Rockit during the breaking days. Eventually I moved onto rock, reggae, punk, early techno like LA Style, and Eon, and went to a few raves in '92.
I pretty much ignored all music for about three years until 1994 when I tuned into a small local college station (KFJC, Los Altos Hills, CA) and listened to Mr.Goodwrench's Just Desserts program, a smorgasborg of electronic music! He played ambient like (Banco de Gaia, Omicron, The Irrestistible Force, and Autechre), detroit techno like Cybotron, and a bit of trance.
His show exposed me so much to electronic music and reawakened my interest in the clean sounds of electronic music. Since then, I've never looked back and have eventually settled on trance. It just speaks to me. Its positivity, melodies, and tempo most of all. Anything else now is too slow, negative or boring.
Trance will be playing at my funeral. |
