Brilliant authors, but are they also decades ahead of their time? I just got through reading Brave New World a second time and it scares me to see some of the things found in that novel are criticisms of our society today, yet the book was written over 50 years ago. If any of you have read any of their books, what are your thoughts on how society is changing?

You should watch Star Wars the movies by Georege Lucas. The guy is like a prophet. He is like so ahead of his time.... its amazing

We should all take a minute and pause after watching the grilling excitment and cool light-saber battles it has foretold. The guy was way ahead of his time. It is amazing how his critism still apply to like whats going on in this world today.

Don't forget the novels of Albert Camus. That is some neat stuff about the meaningless of life. "The Stranger" and "The Plague" are great in my opinion.

Indeed great writers. Brave New World is on my to-be-read-list.

Agreed – Brave New World is worth the read, and there are unquestionably some good concepts in it, but doesn’t have half the impact of 1984. Possibly because the savage boy takes every opportunity, about every 5 pages to say ‘Oh, brave new world which has such people.’

Haha.... George Lucas's SW is kinda an excellent translation of religions around the world today, as well as that, it's utterly brillant briefing on different political system in place around the world, the corruption, the struggle for power :)... Mehs, enough of my drivle.

Orwell and Hexley's books are just their personal interpretation of the way they see the world, and how it could/would be, if certain events occured simulataneously to create the world they described :); f.e. the rise of fascist authoritarian states in 1984

I'm pretty sure Yoepus was joking about George Lucas. Lucas copied everything in Star Wars from other authors anyway.

Star Wars is a complete rip off of Dune

Zild
Yep.

You mean that a film that came out in 1977 is somehow a ripoff of a film that came out in 1984? Hmmm...elaborate please.

p.s. I realize that IMDB claims that there was some form of Dune movie in 1973, but evidence of such seems inconclusive. Furthermore, I'm sure the Dune you are speaking of is the Dune of 1984 with Kyle McLaughlin. More Deep!
