I wouldnt say this is his 'overall' sound but he does tend to throw in tribal technoish tunes in his set. And lets not forget his biggest hits r tech influenced.

My god I think you are the one that needs to read what people are writing. The question asked was who plays techy cheese, not who's dj'ing style was cheesy.

It pisses me off when people claim that Picotto is cheesy. He doesnt try to be a techno DJ and doesnt claim that he is one. The man plays what he feels right and always establishes his own sound, even though he is far from technically gifted. How somebody under the name 'tiesto14' can say that Picotto plays "the cheesier side of techno" obviously knows all about the genre.

... what he said. he's a great producer too. tiesto's gatex mix(which i have) and all his other harder tech songs are good. but actually the influence of tiesto's harder style can be traced back to his days of producing and playing WITH picotto. lethal industry was first released with a picotto b side. obviously these guys have respect for eachother (although i don't like tiesto much). can't we all just get along?!

uber-duper thread hijack:

on the Picotto subject.

sorry guys, but i'm 100% with dj tek. hell, if he won't say it, i will.

PICOTTO IS A CHEESE TECHNO DJ.

i don't know if seeing Frank Lorber, Marco Carola, Gaetano Parisio, Christian Smith, Danilo Vigorito, John Selway, Dave Hollands, Chris Liebing, James Holden (who spun a killer techno set [yes techno, for those who don't know, it seems to be Holden's strongsuit in long sets, along with that emotional electro and minimal he likes to throw around. he played Josh Wink, LFO and Dave Clarke tracks just to name a couple.]) and the expectancy of seeing Richie Hawtin and Magda next month, but Picotto came here and played one of the tiest sets i've heard in a while.

i originally did NOT want to go, but with all this crap i was hearing of Picotto having changed, being a great techno DJ now, his relationship with Liebing (whom is too fast for me, btw), etc, i decided to check it out, without doing my research online and listening to a couple of recent livesets.

boy what a mistake.

he spun quite decently for the first hour. hell, i'd say good. amongst his first tunes was Alter Ego - Rocker, so even tho it's been caned to hell by now, at least he put a smile on my face.

but then... why oh why?! i guess maybe he thought dominicans don't know good music and started throwing in our faces. tool techno tracks with no motive, just percussion and random noise. then ty tech-trance type tracks, some nearing just plain old ty noisy hard tech trance. i can only endure GOOD hardtrance for a little while, and if its the tiest, and hardest of trance, then wtf.

if that was not a cheese techno set, well, bleh to you.

and just because a DJ is a big name doesn't mean he can't make a mistake now and then. ie. Clarke's Remix of La La Land. i'd classify it as cheese techno. technically/production-wise, not bad, but come on.
