imo there seemed to be more people on the dance floor when he was playing than kimball (not that it means any of them were better dj's). just seemed the crowd enjoyed chroma's set a little more. |
Hey thanks Zenbudda, the night was excellent... everything from the sound system to the lights to the crowd. The floor was a bit empty until I dropped Nathan Fake - Adamedge... I remember looking back up expecting an empty floor only to be greeted by a packed dancefloor... since it was New Years Eve and the first night of the club, I wanted to touch not only the hardcore electronica listeners but also some of the newer ones that might've taken a chance by walking into Eternal. I threw down alot of older tracks that people might've recognized like G&D's remix of Duncan Sheik, Satoshi's remix of After All, and also some newer ones. The crowd responded really well to most of the tracks. In the coming weeks i'll mainly be sticking to progressive and trance and expect a more in-depth and deeper selection.
Kimball was also very good playing a great selection of progressive. He has excellent skills with the mixer and its effects and he's a great guy. The sound cutoff a couple of times unfortunately during his set, but everyone just partied on. Thanks everyone for coming out, great night and great New Year's.
Great meeting Matthias, seeing Raymond again, and the crowd of San Antonio buddies that came up with me that won't be seeing this... oh well! Till next time! |

I had a blast last night. My whole purpose in going was to make sure to support Travisty and Matthias. The trip was 100% worth it!!! Matthias, words will not describe how good your set was. I enjoyed talking to you and walked away inspired to do more.
JoJO has himself a damn fine venue. I will be sure to support as much as I can. Even if the headliner is not my cup of tea, like last night...I will be there to support the smaller guys.
It was good seeing you again "The E" and glad you had a good time. Matthias, I can't believe that Julio paid 100.00 bucks for the shirt!!! That's awesome!!! Once again, great night!!! |

Not to mention trading me his Versace shirt. With all the $100s in his wallet, I figured he and his friends were with the cartel. He really wanted that shirt tho..
:haha: |

By the way...most of you probably already know; but if anyone wants to download the rework I made of Josh Gabriel - Alive; you can get it from here:
http://www.myspace.com/djmatthias
too bad I could only fit a 128kb/s version of it, but still sounds okay for that low of an mp3. If anyone on AIM wants a 320kbs mp3 of it just hit me up. Cheers |

Chroma, your set really got the crowd going. The chicks really respond well to vocal house tracks, I just wish I had more of em besides David Morales - How Would You Feel. As far as my set it seemed like the Matthew Dekay remixes really went over well, the 30 minutes of progressive breaks, and the last 4 Alive, Crush, White Room and 4.5 billion years. I gotta give props to Travisty as well...great hearing a few of the older gems he played. |

| speaking of the 1.1.2005 show, did anyone rip the other dj's sets (besides acosta of course as that would be illegal ;-) )? i'm actually interested in hearing the mixes. i still think dave and/or packer should be spinning on 6th street in austin. |

That's SO Funny. I saw that you'd changed at the end into a Julio (un)button-down, & wondered why. My friend LOVES Paul Van Dyk, so she liked your shirt too--not enough to buy it!
I went up at the end to the VIP area upstairs. Eternal is the only club I'd consider paying for VIP being worthwhile--the view from upstairs is better, (the DJ booth is a HobbitHole) & there are actually places to sit upstairs.
Intergalactic was a floor-filler, everyone seemed to be hanging back behind an invisible Maginot line before that. There's always a point in the night where I want to dance, but the only people dancing are the glow-stick dude & the modern-dance girl. (More power to you-all for dancing out there alone!)
Now I wish I'd made it to Kimball too. I'll see Chroma some other time.
Some (minor) constructive criticism, (& I know, it just opened, so these are strictly my opinion):
Places to sit downstairs would be nice. Like instead of the back unused stage, some couches or chairs?
Put a riser in the DJ Booth. The DJ is tucked enough away that unless they're as tall as Matthias, all I could see was the top of Acosta's forehead.
The concrete floor looks industrial, but can get painful to dance on. When people were thrashing around dancing, I was waiting for someone to bust a move & break their skull open. How about some wood flooring?
I paid $5 for red bull & vodka from one bartender, $6 from another-not sure whether I underpaid or overpaid. Also, bar ran out of RedBull before midnight. :whip:
Standing water back by the bathrooms.
Pluses:
The light & sound system literally blew me away. For a club of that size, they're top-notch.
All of the staff was friendly & courteous.
Overall, I highly recommend anyone in Austin to check this place out! |

LOL. Quite honestly...I did not want to sell that shirt. But he kept increasing the offer and I figure I really needed the money. That and I can get another shirt for $18 plus shipping.

Yeah the Intergalactic track really went off :). Respect for Travisty, but not too many were dancing so I trying to build things up to get the crowd loosened up I guess. The breaks seemed to help, just wish I had more of them with me.
I completely agree with the wood floors...as they also improve the sound in a room. The modern dance girl was my sister btw. hehe |

OUCH! I hear the smackdown from San Antonio all the way up the I-35 to Austin.
When a crowd starts dancing is tricky. Usually it starts somewhere between 10:30-11:30. A combination of:
Right music
Critical mass of people wanting to dance (noone really wants to be out there completely on their own)
enough substances (liquor)
Comfort level with club
Noone really danced at the RITM DJ set--I still can't figure out exactly why. |
