You can give general impressions through pure instrumentalism- i.e aggression, sadness, happiness etc. but tell me how a few piano notes can convey that PVD made the song for his wife?

Im not here to tell you that. I'm telling you that all kinds of feelings can be conveyed without the need for stupid vocals. Your statement of 'why attach meaning to a track if it doesnt have vocals' or whatever it was, was a bit short sighted.

I didn't say "why attach meaning" as if it's pointless, I meant people don't usually bother attaching specific meanings to instrumentals, because listening to the track, you'll never get the message.

youre going about all this backwards.

Artists making music for the right reasons will have meanings attached to their music whether or not you get the message or not.

Are you saying that a track like Love Stimulation for example, shouldnt mean anything to Paul van Dyk just because YOU dont 'get' it or know what its about??

The tracks & their meanings come first. From and for the artist. If anyone else likes it then thats just a bonus for an artist making music in a proper way.

Not realistic. The lyrical content and title usually come after the instrumental side of a track in most cases. Some artists have a meaning and make their track around that, but almost always they write lyrics if the emotional side of the track is so important. I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying that's usually how it is.

Ding ding ding. That's the correct answer.
placebo
The track was made in 1994.

Think about how massive it was back then.

You can't really compare it to tracks that have come out these days, that have many more layers of sound and are more complex.

All trance back then was cookie cutter. For An Angel is a classic track, but when you listen to more current stuff, it is still quite simple.

But then again, it does sound better then alot of crap that has come out this year, but I'm not going to bash other producers and artists on this board.

*shrugs*

In the end, who gives a ?

then dont come into the thread making general statements like tracks have no meaning unless there is vocal content, when it just isnt accurate at all.

I guessed it was just a pretty but hollow trance title, like most are. If there are no lyrics, there usually isn't much emotional meaning behind a track name.

if the track title matches the mood/atmosphere the track creates, i believe sometimes instrumentals say much more than a track with unconvincing vocals/lyrics.
