Hello all! I recently went to Florida to see a very good friend in Wildwood, FL... which is right outside of Leesburg. Yes, I drove all the way from Austin, TX, hey, only 16 hours, lol. I've been thinking of moving to Orlando, and I was wondering if there were any good clubs that played trance there. Also, I'm a trance DJ and I'm wondering how hard it is to break the scene.
I did spend one night in Orlando... I spent most of my time wildwood with my friend. I did enjoy the awesome record store (Vinyl Frontier)! I went to 3 clubs... and was disappointed in all of them, so I'm hoping i was just in the wrong area (Orange St.) I went to Tabu last... and wasn't impressed with the music playing there. I went to a couple of bars that claimed to be dance clubs... even though they didn't really have much, if any, of a dance floor. I think I'll visit one last time before I decide to move or not... any club recommendations?

A pic of downtown Florida the night I was there

Club Tabu

Here I am proudly holding Lost Witness - Wait For You with the original vocal mix that I got at Vinyl Frontier |

When it comes to trance, Orlando = vent. Breaking the scene you say? Refer to the first sentence. I am a trance jock as well. At least, many people respect your taste and don't make fun of you. I remember spinning a set in the Uni where I go to. Neutral reaction. No "boos" or ignorant comments, but no cheers or positive response either.
Vinyl Frontier is awesome records store. Check out DropShop as well.
Tabu aka Cheesu, lol. |

vent? lol, I'm sorry I don't know what you mean by that term. Thanks for your reply... although it seemed a little discoiuraging. My other option that I'm thinking about is moving to Europe... just that My best friend is in Wildwood, so I really don't know what to do. Currently I'm in Austin, TX and the scene is just beginning to show some life... even though it is mostly hip-hop here. Did I really go to all the best clubs?! I can't imagine Tabu being the biggest dance club in Orlando... although it seemed to be. |

What he said.
Orlando has a very weak scene. And if you play trance it's even harder, DnB and Breaks are most popular here. Maybe followed by Progrssive House, and trance falls by the way side. |

Vent as in empty.
Biggest club here is club Tr3 down by UCF. Haven't been there yet. It opened last month I believe. Expect to hear the same mainstream garbage/. |

You forgot to append hip-hop to the front. |

Well in general, I love living in Orlando. Theres only 2 places in the US I'd willingly move outta here to - SoCal and SoBe!
That said, if a trance scene is that important to you, Europe is far better option... lot more $$$ tho. Miami/SoBe of course has a good scene, and it is only a 3 1/2 hour drive from here.
As for clubs, yea Tabu is one of the bigger ones, but big definately doesn't equal best. Icon and HOB suck most of the time but will occassionally bring in the big name DJs, we've had Tiesto, Ferry, Oakenfold, Sander, Sandra, and Hybrid this year. I like Sky60, they play some nice chill house up there. Ryhtm & Flow has been playing trance both times I've been in there. Both are 21+ so if you're < 21, you're ed, just plan on Europe now!
that's my .02 |

I'mm 23, so that's not a problem. LOL, I know I look 16 in that picture. My best friend is 17 so that sucks for him... then again there aren't many under 18 clubs, haha. If there were, I wouldn't go to them. What I need to do is get a gig at Rhythm & Flow and then drag him in with me. By the way, got any contact info for that club? Is it by Orange St?
Also, there are very few things holding me here. I think The Netherlands is my best option. I've been talking to Joop and Benno of Rank 1 a lot, and from what they've said, it sounds great! But until then, probably in two years and drag my friend there, I guess I'll move to Orlando and try to get a job... still up in the air. Anymore input? |

LOL, god disgusting. Is it possible to escape that ! I mean what's so great about hip-hop! Why does everyone between ages 14 and 30 worship it like it's the most beautiful and energetic music in the world. |

Rythm & Flow is on Orange Ave south of Tabu
good luck getting a gig, breaking in to anything isnt easy, and its really more about who you know
heh... about hip-hop
seems most people who listen to it, have no real passion for the music. they are drones and just go with whats popular with the majority to be accepted. most people here on TA share a great appreciation for our music, there are some of the best people in this scene.
i used to like some hip hop back in the day, still do, but only when it's good stuff, not this grossly overplayed thats on the radio, how can people willingly listen to this crap over and over again... i swear if i gotta hear that "yea yea" nelly song one more time i'm gonna shoot somebody. hah, no wonder they say rap influences violence!! |

Or that other song: "Get yo ass on the dancefloor" or something like that.
Agonizing..... |
