I bought the Tiesto tix for 40 beans with some reservations. I had a good time at his gigs in Amsterdam (Dec) and also here at Limelight in March. However I had heard that he was still caning Oakey loved tunes as recently as last week in Toronto and in other parts of the U.S. I had already stated that I did not want to hear tracks he dropped in March and last yr again. OK maybe a couple of tracks but that is it. Specifically I did not want to hear, as stated in a previous thread:
Eugina
Lost Vagueness
Flesh
Voyage
Prophet
and definitely not SILENCE
Of course Tiesto drops as his second track......EUGINA. I could not believe it. I think within the first hour and a half he had dropped all the aforementioned Oakey loved and played out tunes that MR.PROTEGE had dropped in March nearly 8 months ago.
8 MONTHS!!!!!!!!! I mean c'mon. He played a lot of Majik 7 and tunes from the old Majik's. Yes I have heard all the raving (no pun intended)about his gigs on this board and I had felt that once. I guess I understand the approval from those hearing Tiesto live for the first time but when hearing so many of the same old tunes the next time or third time around is very disappointing, especially almost a yr later. Some of you will see. To make matters worse Tiesto's mixing left a lot to be desired. I distinctly heard a number of trainwrecks and skips. Some other tracks I remember were:
Riva--Stringer
Raphie B--Massive
Hide U vs Flight 643
Souvenir de Chine--Fire & Ice
PPK--Resurrection
Anyway overall didnt have a good time. Also not impressed with WORLD's soundsystem or "concert-style" dj booth setup. I guess it is great for the stars like Oakey and Tiesto who are all about show and stardom. Tiesto's head has gotten as big as Oakey's with all his antics. I now proclaim TIESTO THE NEW OAKEY!!!!Does he always get introduced before a gig "Please welcome all the way from the Netherlands...." Is that what happens when PvD and S&D spin?
For the Tiesto lovers to each his/her own. I am just disappointed because I used to like and respect Tiesto. NOT ANYMORE. |

| That was my big problem with Tiesto when he spun in TO a few weeks ago...his tracklist was soooo predictable !!! I know that the tunes he played were good but what the hell, most of them were stright out of Magik 7. For a Big time DJ like Tiesto u expect him to update his tune box. Oh well...I guess it was great to hear classics, but I did expect more... |

Sounds like the age old battle between the people who want to hear new tracks all the time and people who want to hear some classics.
You cant please everyone. |

One thing I do NOT want to hear is Tiesto spinning PPK - Resurrection! That will be the best proof yet that Tiesto is becoming like Oakie (which I'd hate to see because I can't stand Oakenfold). Not to mention that tune sucks, it's poorly-produced and has no place in the tracklists of Tiesto/Ferry/AvB and the like. It's just not like everything else. If Oakie plays it that's fine, I couldn't give a about that lamer.
Now, about him playing "predictable" tunes -- the reason why DJ's play famous tunes over and over, and the reason why these tunes are in fact famous, is because they're so good. DJ's know that when they play these big hits they will please the crowd. And, for those of us not able to see Tiesto so often, that's perfectly fine. We're very happy to hear the great and BEAUTIFUL tracks in the style that we associate with Tiesto. Yes they're not brand-new -- but if you have time for too much thinking and analyzing what should be played and what shouldn't, instead of dancing, something is wrong... I say, if the people like it, let it be played. For example, PvD always closes his sets with the antiquated For an Angel, and why shouldn't he? -- it's a classic that people instantly recognize and love. |

| I didn't have so much of a problem with the set he spun. It was a little older and a few newer titles. The part that shocked me was how many mistakes he made between tracks and how awful the flow was. I will never pay money to see him again. Maybe I've been spoiled this year by seeing the likes of Max Graham, Derrick Carter, PVD, and others.... and all of them produced flawless sets with a great mix of new with a couple old titles for the killer set. But, there is no excuse for poor beat matching and actually having about 6 or so skips. How embarrassing .... |

Rui Da Silva performed her Smash hit "Touch Me". She sounded great live...the song is played though.
Tiesto came on at 3:30 strong. He played the usual tracks we predicted. He played for 2.5 hours. ALL old tunes & classics from 99. I didn't recognize all of 3 tunes. The crowd LOVED him... he trainwrecked 2x & the crowd still cheered. :D Push I too was disappointed. I could have popped in 1 of his sets. $40 for Old tunes...Tiesto is the new Oakenjoke. Tiestoenfold!
Tracklisting:
Salt Tank- Eugina (Tiesto remix)
Insigma- Open Ur Eyes
Utah Saints- Lost Vagueness (Oliver lieb main mix)
Yahel- Voyage (Tiesto remix)
Riva- Stringer
Wind Sider- Hide U on Flight 643 followed by Flight 643 (Orginal remix)
PPK- The Resurrection
CJ Bolland- The Prophet
Jose Amnesia- The Eternal
Tilt- Flesh (Tiesto remix)
Fire & Ice- Sounevir De Chine
Rammstein- Ich Will (PVD Remix)
Pulser- Cloudwalking
Ralphie B- Massive
Balearic Bill - Destination Sunshine (Tiësto Power mix)
##Encore## (as I predicted)- Urban Train
I can't believe he dropped Silence. That tune had its day. He NEEDS to retire it! The lights came on, Tiesto came out from the booth on to the stage w/2 signed records in his hands, raising his arms in the air a la Oakenjoke. Then threw them into the crowd a la PVD. He jumped around & danced to his remix that made him the MAN of 2000. He was extremely animated...he wore a kool aid smile the entire night. This was his 2nd time in NYC...this was a typical tiesto set. Not mind blowing, special or unique like NYC deserves. Don't get me wrong I had a great time. Great seeing ya Push....u were cracking me up! Twilo chick, DJ Garfield, & Trancer. The system was too loud I lost my voice. :( |

| I was too somewhat disappointed from the performance. Playing one or two old tracks here and there is great. All the dj's do it, but it becomes a fine line when u over do it. Its as if, like Oakenfold, Tiesto felt like it was his job to educate the american public on trance. I dunno how our knowledge of trance is ever gonna progress by playing old tunes. Don't get me wrong, i had a good time. But i think its important for dj's to play old and new stuff. I think Tiesto over did it last night. |

| AMEN! I mean it was good hearing some old stuff...but his set was jam packed with oldies. I still had a good time. But it was not awesome...and someone like Tiesto should be "on". I heard numerous skippings and trainwreckings...a couple of times I looked up towards the stage expecting Jonathan Peters to be standing there. Like I discussed with djgarfield...Tiesto didn't take you for a ride. He didn't bring the crowd on a musical journey...he just seemed to be throwing tracks down. There was no direction to the set at all. Someone like Tiesto should be able to control the crowd and give em what they want. I think dj's tend to underestimate NyC's ability to judge a good dj from a bad one. We may not be the trance capital of the world but for goodness sake we know our ! Basically Tiesto was a lil on the weak side but I still had a good time dancing and chillin. All I have to say is PvD Nov 24th!!! Can't wait! :D |

Aside from the fact that his set WAS in fact "predictable", and yes I HAVE mentioned before that his sets are repetative, it, I had a good time...when and where else will I get to hear an EXCELLENT DJ with select music here in NYC........
hmmmmmm, once in awhile? I'm not going to sit here and complain all day...I would, however, judge the set a good 5 thru 7 out of 10?? Still undecided....ahh well, might've not been his greatest but that doesn't matter, I still had a great time...I am just glad I got to hear him and see him.
If I had anything to complain about, it would be the fact that I am STILL partially deaf at the moment...
But anyway, over all, it was definitely another night to remeber, at least he got to sign my picture I have of the two of us back in the Spring....:) that was pretty cool. He's just a swell type of guy!:D |

Firstly I'm pretty sure Rui Da Silva is male. 2: I'm not keen on Oakenfold but can you please refrain from using that pathetic name for him of yours which I've highlighted in orange since it doesn't even sound one bit like his real name. And why do you say that when "Jokenfold" sounds far more like Oakenfold? |

3 points:
1--It is nice to hear the "classics" for the first time; not the third time around. I am sure everyone who heard Tiesto for the FIRST time thought it was excellent. Tell me how amazing it is when you hear the same songs over and over, gig after gig.
2--"AMAZING" and "EXCELLENT" dj's do not trainwreck multiple times and have trouble beat matching and if you were there this definitely happened.
3--Please play for longer than 2.5 hours esp since it is the same gig all the time requiring no energy and thought. I mean Tiesto lovers should be disappointed that he plays so little, no? Can this really be defended?
