do u think the dj thing is outta control?...what i mean by out of control is the dj worship thing as well as rockstar kinda image?

when trance was new over here 8 or so years ago in New York guys like oakenfold, sasha, PVD and others were play'n there hearts out when they came here....the parties were awesome and not so dj centered......the dj supplied the music and everyone did there thing.

seems now when u go out the prices are doubled .......and the crowd is so dj centered that it steals alot from the night..everyone is preoccupied watching them 'perform' taking up space on the dance floor not even dancing...then tiesto or armin puts his hands up in the air then so does that group.....

i remember 1 time i saw carl cox in twilo... he had some crowd interaction like that for like a couple hours.....then the madness around that booth...(if u remember twilo that one on the floor by the alley to the bathroom with the power bar off to the side)settled down and there was no one around the booth anymore just that nutcase with a towel around his neck sweating like a farm animal rocking back and forth like a madman......in the zone hard f*%king core....he has no idea whats going on out on that floor....he just knows he is singing himself a lullaby......and he projected that out onto the floor....that was one of my best clubbing experiences to this date...there were people rocking that floor gett'n with the music.....

not the messenger

it s just sad because it seems like that kinda vibe has been absent from NY lately

Has the dj thing gotten out of control? Yes.

I think i'd sort of prefer it that way though.

I'm not of clubbing age, but i know that thats the only reason i would go to a club (to see a dj) I'm not much into club sluts, or doing drugs in public with strangers.

yeah, i actually agree with you here. the gigs are starting to become, 'shows'. meaning, you go to watch a DJ now everything else is 2nd (dancing, friends, drinking). i don't know if its bad, but it is defiently different.

Sure it's ot of control especially when there's loads of cash involved. Look at Tiesto, doing concerts, selling DVD's, what's next, a T-Mobile commercial with Snoop?

I think the DJ Mag Top 100 poll has a lot to do with it. People who have no idea who the DJ is or what he plays, will go see him just because he's "the number 1 DJ in the world". These are the people that are they to see him perform so they can form an opinion on weather he's number 1 or not.

When I do go to an event though, it's usually in Vancouver and I meet up with a lot of the Vancouver TA's and we usually hang out, talk about trance and other stuff, have some s and giggles and listen to some good music. We're not there to watch his every move since he's just a regular person like me and you. I mean, its not like he's doing heart surgery behind the decks so I don't see why they're treated like rock stars.

If you want to get away from this type of scene, go out and support the local DJ's more.

Do you even realise how predictable you are? Can't you find another place to moan at?

Moan? I simply said it was new before he said it was new. That's correcting a false statement.

And how does correcting this statement make any kind of difference in this thread? Or in any thread? In any case, he said "in 8 or so", he didn't even say it as a fact.

You know trance history. Big whoop. Time to move on.

if the dj is out of control, that means you need to do one of two things,

a: more drugs
or
b: more drinks

and you are set

cheers :-D

How is typing anything on the internet anywhere going to make any kind of difference to anyone? Besides, this is the first time i've talked about Trance in New York.

It's grammatically incorrect to begin a sentence with a conjunction by the way. Okay maybe not all the time, but definitely useless in your case.
