Yeah i agree somewhat.
I do feel good that these DJs are getting the recognition..but gone are the days where u totally are "in' off ur dancing like nobodies business". Thats why i like it when local DJs play. No one gives a who he is, its cheaper to get in, and ur grooving away and not really caring if the DJ is pullin of some move.
Nowadays (with trance DJs mainly)... it seems like everyones waiting for the next killer bassline, or the next "anthemic melody" and u look at the DJ raise his hands or jumping around and everyone does the same. Jeez.Thats why i abhore armin so much. His music is boring and those AVB addicts are like waving their hands in the air every 2 mins praying to him like hes THE best out there. |

| Exactly, this is the reason why the clubbing scene has changed so much, the djs who introduced it to all of us all those years back are the same people who are distoying it by charging ridiculas amounts of cash to play. This is why we should be behind the young talent coming through and residents for that fact because these people do it for the love of music and not money. |

I live in NYC and I can say its quite a joke. Everyone around here thinks that NYC is THE place in the USA for EDM. 75% of the people in the clubs are there not for the music, but for the scene, period.
Yeah, if its PVD, Tiesto, AVB, maybe Oakie a little then you get the entire scene to show up. The place is packed, they pay $50 to get in, and $12 a pop for a drink. Then they all race to the boards at 7am to be the first to post a review about the night. They dont do this so they can see some DJ, they do it so they can SAY they saw some DJ.
If they were really about the music then you would see the same faces at Cattaneo, Yunus, etc., but you don't. If they really loved the music they would attempt to go see some other DJs to really see what they can do. But they don't. They would rather go see PVD so they can go home and write OMFG CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT BLAH BLAH BLAH.
Support local DJs? Barely around here. Only if the same people in that scene have a friend in that scene who is actually DJing/throwing the party.
Is i like that for everyone around here? No. But sadly it has become a dominant theme in this area. |

Well in Minnesota at our clubs, we have something similar but the crowd that any dj draws is usually a coke infested heaven where dealers sift through the crowds of mindless people there. Granted there is still a big dj hype but that’s for about 10% of the crowd that actually knows what is going on, the other 90% of hedonists are doped up on some form of Hallucinogen or trying to make the quota for the night by swindling people.
At times I almost wish people who went there went for the dj or music rather then sitting around with a ton of dirty people who have no idea what the hell is going on.... However I can testify that when I was in LA at a big event MANY people were Much more into the dj then the music... I know what you mean when you say Dj's are turning into rock stars or some parallel of that, but its something I kind of like, something to give people something to shoot for. "hey mom i want to be a dj like Dj Sammy (replace with your favorite dj :p )." Prices have gone way up yes, but that means only one thing....
Get smashed BEFORE you go to the club lol
